PM me if you're interested in checking out Pop Levi @ the Troubador in Chinatown on the 16th of this month. He's playing a solo acoustic delta blues set, maybe the only time you'll ever hear such music from a Liverpudlian. Invite only. I'll do what I can.

More importantly, Pop Levi will render March obsolete in February.

That's what I was wondering about... someone's all Marched up over moving to LA/seeing a lot of shows...

Unfortunately, I won't be able to go on the 16th, but thanks for the offer...

I think Belle & Sebastian/New Pornographers are playing a show around the 20th. March is rediculous for shows in LA.

What is this Sunset Rubdown of which you speak? Good for fans of Wolf Parade?

The march shows that have caught my eye so far are

Isobel Campbell at Troubadour (which I'd guess would include a Lanegan appearance since he lives in LA)
Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs at Hotel Cafe
Kris Kristofferson at Troubadour

I haven't really searched yet. I want to go see some more shows now that I'm more centrally located.

Yeah, I've looked at both schedules. There are a few that look moderately interesting but not so much stuff I'd plan in advance to go to. If you see anything that you'd recommend though or are going to, let me know, esp for tangier. I live literally a block and half from Tangier now so I don't need a hard sell to get off my ass to see a show there.

I noticed Autumn Defense is playing there tonight but I doubt I can make that.

Sorry i'm kinda butting in but i love to hear the places you like to check out. Last time i was in LA i only got to check out The Chromatics at someplace downtown & Crazy Girls.

I was staying at a hostel a block from Amoeba which was a plus.

i highly recommend birdy nam nam @ the tangier. i think you *might* like it... it's experimental, downtempo, etc - however the show is strictly on the turntables. my friend was showing me a dvd he got from paris the other day and it was pretty damn amazing. they're from france and won the 2002 dmc world team championship.

description in brief:
Quote:
“Birdy Nam Nam are a DJ crew from France whose members are Crazy-B, DJ Pone, DJ Need and Lil' Mike. Birdy Nam Nam have won several prizes throughout their career including the DMC Technics 2002 World TEAM Championships. Birdy Nam Nam's goal is to use the turntable player as an actual musical instrument.”

check out their website: birdy nam nam

dude, you were at the wrong places. i prefer going to bars in the silverlake / echo park / los feliz area... as far as shows, spaceland, silverlake lounge, and tangier are the best for showcasing local talent- but the troubadour is one of my favorite venues.

there's a million things to do that can cater to any type of music you want. next time you come out here, i'll give you some suggestions. i tend to go out a lot.

J, are you sure about the venue for this? The Troubadour's site shows a sold out show for some other acts that night.

It's Transistor....in Chinatown....
Not the Troubadour...

Ish got his Venues a bit mixed up....it's more than forgivable considering:

1) he lives thousand of miles away, and
2) He likes Spank Rock

(you thought I was goingto throw in a "Canadian" barb, didn't ye? Not the time nor the thread to resort to rampant Canuck bashing...just go to the show on Thurs if you can, and have a good time...)

You're right, T. I meant Transistor, see above.

I've put your name in along with puma et amie.
