What album or cd has eluded you for the longest time? I'd be interested to see what other Obners have been on a quest to find but have been unable to locate over the years.

Lately for me it's: Michael Monroe - Nights Are So Long (1987)

Image

This was the first solo album from the vocalist/saxophonist/harmonica player of one of the most overlooked bands of the 80's: Hanoi Rocks. Eons ago I remember that a friend of mine had it on vinyl but later she said that she sold it away. I know it's available on cd as a Japanese import but it's pretty expensive. I keep thinking that it will miraculously turn up on the used bins but really, who am I kidding? Outside of Finland most people have never heard of it. It may not be his best work (his solo second s/t album was widely acclaimed and released worldwide on Polygram in 1990) but still I'd love to have this and hear it again even in mp3 form, mostly for nostalgic and completist reasons.

You?

Clive Pig & The Hopeful Chinamen - A Sense Of The Size Of The World

Great album. Pretty sure it's never been on cd.

Seriously?

With a name like that, how could they have failed?

If the internet is correct virtually every copy of this 12 inch single ended up in Japan!

Memphis, for the uninformed, was the band formed by James Kirk and Steven Daly when they were sacked from Orange Juice. They released one single on Alan Horne's Swamplands label (his follow up to Postcard) before leaving the music scene*.

*Of course James Kirk made a glorious return some 18 years later with his solo album 'You Can Make It If You Boogie'. Daley is now a well known music journalist based in New York.

Sorry....I'm obssessed.....

The Forgotten Rebels - This Ain't Hollywood
The Forgotten Rebels - Boys Will be Boys (EP)

Both of these do not seem to be available on cd. I had them on vinyl but they were borrowed and never returned. All I have left of these two albums are the original dubbed cassette versions I first got when I was 13. The tape is still good over 20 years on, but I only occasionally listen now because I just don't know when I'll ever be able to hear these records again.

There was a collection of early (1964-67) Parliment/Funkadelic singles that eluded me for the longest time.

One day I actually found it at a local store, and I literally lifted it above my head and did a dance in the store before taking the record to the counter to pay for it.
Now, my stereo is trashed and I have no turntable to play the damn thing on.
:(

Belle And Sebastian - Modern Rock Song [EP]

Ben Kweller - Freak Out, It's Ben Kweller

Jason Collett - Bitter Beauty

The Lowest Of The Low - City Full Of Cowards [CD-Single]

Stars - Dead Child Stars [EP]

superGARAGE - Duct Tape [EP]

They're all out-of-print and I've never seen them anywhere, including eBay and used cd stores. And I own everything else they've done by all those artists.

A bunch of first pressing singles, and a copy of Damned Damned Damned with the Eddie & The Hot Rods jacket. I'd also like to own any of the Von Karajan/BPH recordings from the early '40's.

Believe it or not, I think I've seen this cd floating around here in Hawaii. Is this their album that has the song, Hitchhike To Mars (Do The Monkey) on it?

doris duke - i'm a loser
jackson c frank - blues run the game
the zombies - odessey and oracle

on LP. i've seen the doris duke listed at $80 and the jackson c frank at $300+, but i've never seen the originals in a store. (although, i have seen the blues run the game reissue that came out a few years ago.) oh, and there're a few dozen northern soul singles that i'll probably never find.

I've been looking for Tim Maia's Racional. It goes for $90-150 regularly on ebay plus shipping which is usually expensive since the seller is in S. America more often than not. I'm hoping to stumble on it some day but its probably pretty unluckly unless it gets reissued.

I see Zombies - Odyssey & Oracle all the time in LP form at Dusty Groove although I think its the reissue and not the original pressing if that matters to you.

I actually just saw that Kinks album a couple of weeks ago but passed it over because it was in pretty shitty condition. If you just want to have a copy for having it's sake, I may be able to go back and pick it up. It was in the $.98 section at the local Half-Price Books.

Yeah, the Clive Pig record was along the lines of Billy Bragg if he were equal parts Robyn Hitchcock, Robert Wyatt and maybe XTC.

I was never sure if there were a real guy named Clive Pigott or if he were just an alter ego of Nick Haeffner, who also was on the album.

Anyway, the Chinamen were mostly only known for a great 1978 cover of "Happy Birthday Sweet 16." The song was included on the Sense of the Size Of The World record six or seven years later.

There were also clever-wordplay story songs like "One Night In Greece With An American" that remain some of my favorite tunes, even though I dubbed the vinyl to cassette from the college station's copy two decades ago.

The tape's all worn out now, very muffled.

Internet comes up with a Clive Pig who apparently does children's records in England. Suppose it could be the same guy. Dunno.

I would love to get a few of the songs our station had on cart, which to my knowledge, were never released anywhere else--three songs in particular:

Tom's Electric Tombstone: Lucy In The Sack With Shroeder
Hoot Mon Hoot (I'm 90% sure this was the name of the combo): Colonel Sanders Is Dead
another local band whose name escapes me: The Man On The Horse

I'd also love to get a copy of Ike Reilly's "Work Song". I've seen him perform it live about five times now, and it's a killer.

No, that's the first (self-titled) one. Thanks for looking, though.

This is the one I'm looking for:
