I mean...

Maybe I'm an asshole. It's a possibility I guess. But when I'm at work. I do not like to talk to anyone. I don't really have anything in common with these people. Their all computer and bike geeks. And that's cool but it's not what I'm interested in.

So when I work at the office I put on my headphones and just want to be left alone.

But these people just insist on talking to me, WITH MY HEADPHONES ON! Asking what I did this weekend is not a good enough excuse for interupting, not only my music, but my work.

I also love this one: I come in from running during my lunch break. I've taken a shower right after I've finished so I'm wet and red in the face. I walk in and, not one, but TWO of these fucks ask me, "Been working out?" When the first person asks I look at them through squinted eyes and say "YEP!". The second person asks right after the first person and I just keep walking, saying nothing.

"No, I've been trying to break the streaking record through the plant you fucking douche! Of course I was working out."

I've been working here for almost a year. I've never asked you how your weekend was. I've never tried to talk to you when I thought you were busy. I've NEVER asked you to do anything after work. All of these things are because I do not like you. ANY OF YOU!

It's just so funny because this is not the kind of person that I am out of the office. I LOVE my job. I can get along with ANYONE, usually. But these people are beyond any sort of relationship.

sorry. i'm done.

EDIT: This may seem like a small thing to get so pissed at. But just imagine it happening day after day after day. And you may...MAY come close to how annoying it is.

Dude, they know. Why do you think they do it? They're fucking with you. Just give them one of these:

:bitchslap:

Especially the 2nd guy who asked you if you were working out.

Sounds like your coworkers better hope there isn't one of these nearby:

Dude you know what I'm like annoyed. That was WAY before Jim Norton came into my life.

He just makes it a lot easier to express myself, anger-wise.

Too bad you're not a girl. I find that a frosty unsmiling glare usually sends people running away from me. But I feel your pain. I've been at my job for a while now, so the people who are irritating small talkers, I just tend to ignore, even when they're in my area (and unfortunately, I share an office with a woman who will stop working to chat with anyone). They'll get the hint soon enough.

i work in a shop so i have my own categories of piss-offage, but if i worked in an office i think i would get homicidal on those ladies with huge asses that walk slowly down the hall like they haven't a care in the world and no particular place to be, meanwhile you're trapped behind them, forced to walk slower than your usual pace, and you can't get around. that's just me, though.

A guy kept talking to me while I had my headphones on today. I missed like 3/4's of whatever he babbled about though.

I can't wear headphones while I'm on the job, it is a violation of corporate rules. Part of it has to do with people frequently driving around on forklifts and moving stage equipment and rigging around during shows, but most of it has to do with my bosses wanting all the operations employees to here them while they are cleaning up the seating areas and or fixing something.
The few chances I get to listen to music in my office, I am usually the only one working and bored off my ass.

My big complaint about my job is that my primary boss is nearly illiterate and sends me the emails with the worst spelling errors. Everyone I share an office with is a moron who is basically lucky to have their position and essentially stuck in that job until they close the arena down.

I've got a headset on all the time I'm in the office, so if someone approaches I don't want to talk to I can just make the "I'm on the phone" gesture and they shoo right away and feel stupid for even approaching.

Saves me TONS of needless aggravation and blank stares.

Awesome.

Do you ever wear it home and try to use it around the house?

that's brilliant. almost enough to make me want to go and buy a headset right now.

that brought a tear to my eye.

i haven't been at my job long enough to feel this way, but i'm working up to it. i avoid eye contact and when someone talks to me, i pretend like i don't hear them and then say, "oh, were you saying something?" so far so good.

i do have two kickass coworkers, though. i still don't really want to hang out with them, but i enjoy chatting about music occasionally.

Wearing headphones at work anywhere around here isn't even heard of. A girl who previously worked in Virginia did it at my wife's accounting firm, and they thought they needed to book her a room at Shady Oaks Psych Ward.

I wish my co-workers would want to talk with me more. I mean, some of them do, but I spend most of my time holed up in my office with headphones on.

Hey, wait a minute...

after reading most of these comments,
i'm pretty sure you hate people outside of yourselves; or similar-minded assholes.
woohoo to you.
small talk is a bore, but it is one of the baby steps that comes with socialization.
if your own little office-world is that comforting, have fun with that,
but you may be surprised that there are smart interesting people out there that don't fit your egocentric mold.
and it may take some time to realize this
and you might miss out on the live pixies b-side italian import for a couple minutes
but you'll have to stop being full of your own shit for a while.
just a suggestion.

I talk with my coworkers more than I should, and occassionally I take some shit for it from my primary boss. I just prefer to work alone most of the time, and I feel that the majority of the people I work with either resent me because I am educated and have a higher position than they do or could give a rats ass and are not the people you want to associate with on a regular basis at your job.
Most of the people I work with are hardcore blue collar workers who are essentially janitors or grunt workers for show set-ups. I on the other hand fit in with the white collar employees, but in reality get paid a decent blue collar sum without the white collar benefits.
I'd rather work a job where I don't have to worry about someone else dragging me down, and when I am in my office/cubicle I can be in my own world and listen to my tunes.

I appreciate not having any co-workers. The most I do is say hello to the liquor manager when I come in, then put my ipod on.

Man, I thought I was anti-social.

When forced into the work area, I'd much rather talk to people than do any work.

One of the reasons I lost my last job was because when my boss phoned I was always in someone elses office talking to them and obviously never picked up.

Then after a few times she'd get annoyed and come down to my office and eventually I'd go back to look at the internet or stare out the window at the traffic or something and she'd be sitting there and say "Where were you!?" and I'd say "the toilet" and she'd say "For 40 minutes!" and I'd say "...Yeah!".

This is pretty much me as well. I might actually do through an entire day without speaking to a single person. Sometimes I prefer it that way, some days I wouldn't mind taking a break and chatting a bit. The other workers around the office/lab are all female, minimum 10 years younger than I am. Some days they're all giddy and can't talk to me enough about the most fucking retarded things, like this new gum they tried. Then other days they won't even make eye contact. I can't say I really like them, so I don't feel bad when the latter happens but it doesn't make for a very pleasant working environment.

No I'm not THAT busy. I just don't talk to people that I have nothing to talk about with.

If one my friends asks me a stupid question they'd get the same exact response. It has nothing to do with being busy.
