dig).

I'm not really a big Paul Simon guy but I heard "Kodachrome" the other day and good god what a great song that is. The version on the Central Park album that goes into "Maybelline" pretty much seals the deal.

Fuck. "The Boxer" is a pretty damn genius song as well.

I hate Toby Keith and all that he seems to stand for.
But I heard a song on the radion today - "I Ain't As Good As I Once Was" - and was kinda enjoying it. Then I found out who it was... SHIT!

Yeah Cap'N pretty much spearheaded us covering that song (Kodachrome). I'm soooo glad he did. It's so fun to play.

I need to think on this question a bit more.

LOVE that song.

I just heard that last week too.

When I was a kid I thought he was singing "mama take my comb comb away". I couldn't figure out why his mom took his comb away.

Damn. Even though it wouldnt be an easy song for me to play, I'm sorry we didnt get to do that one together.

There's probly a bunch of covers we did that fall into this category. We pulled some random shit.

There's a few good Simon solo tunes, "Me & Julio Down By The Schoolyard" also comes to mind.

I agree about "Desperado".

I like "Lakini's Juice" and "White, Discussion" by Live.

Oh man there's a ton, but I can never think of them at will.

Kodachrome IS fun to play.

I don't really like The Bangles, but really like their take on "Hazy Shade of Winter"... more Paul Simon content.

I really like Simon & Garfunkel and own all of their albums. I like a lot of Paul Simon solo even if not enough to really want to own a lot of his albums or listen to any of them with great frequency. I have nothing against Kodachrome but it wouldn't be very high on my list of best Paul Simon songs.

Desperado rules this thread.

Jim Croce seems like someone appropriate to name check too although I can't really pick the right song so maybe I just like him more than I care to admit.

Feel the same way about "Life In the Fast Lane"

"Whiter Shade of Pale" is my second-favorite song of all time but I couldn't name another song from Procol Harem.

"The Letter" is the greatest song ever, but the rest of Box Tops are pretty ignore worthy for me.

I'm all for "Kodachrome" and "Whiter Shade of Pale", but the Eagles can suck a dick and die.

You've got to hear Robin Trower blistering through Whisky Train.

"Whiter Shade of Pale" always reminds me of that movie "The Commitments"

I've got several, not because I'm not really a fan of the band or artists, just never bought or own alot of their music.

Midnight Rider by Allman Brothers Band
Bad Company and Burnin Sky by Bad Company
Right Place Wrong Time by Dr. John

Absomuhfuhlutely. That song made my Listmania!, and gets credit for the most poetic use ever of the word "crap."

Oh, and on a similar topic, how about songs that have managed to hold up well over the years, despite having a very dated sound from the time they were released? The song that made me think of this is "Voices Carry" by 'Til Tuesday, which popped up on random last night. I mean, that song has the EIGHTIEST (yes, I am officially coining that as an adjective) synths you can possibly imagine, yet the song still manages to pack a wallop.

Aimee Mann totally blows Tori Amos out of the water in the "shameful early pre-solo-career output" category, when you compare 'Til Tuesday to Y Kant Tori Read (or whatever her "band" was called). That being said, I fuh Tori WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY before I fuh Aimee (sorry, M. Penn). Eat something, Mrs. P!!!

C'mon, HaqBro!!! What about "Conquistador"?!?!? I would pay hundreds (maybe thousands) of dollars to sing that at R&R karaoke if backed by a full horn section. Perhaps I should open a PayPal account and solicit donations...

They're both hot, but yeah...Tori...(gets all dreamy-eyed)...

I may have to use that, except I might spell it 'eightiesest' (AY-teez-est). I like eightiesy synths. In fact, think I'll go put on Yello's Flag right now.

Good call! And speaking of Dio, while post-Ozzy Black Sabbath generally sucks a bat's wang, there are few songs ever recorded that kick more ass than "The Mob Rules."
