i do, but i can't tell you about anything you don't already know well. lately, i've been listening to The Ultimate Otis Redding and Etta James's At Last pretty regularly.

I like it a lot.

Some that you should absolutely have;
The Staple Singers - Best Of (Stax)
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Ultimate Collection
Sam and Dave - The Very Best Of (Rhino)
Stevie Wonder - Songs In the Key Of Life
Issac Hayes - Black Moses
Marvin Gaye - What's Goin' On?

yes, i am aware of the artists listed here so far. let me amend my question. how about more contemporary artists who have some soul. they don't have to be straight soul singers.

Although I like the ones I listed, I've got to ask why you want contemporary recommendations? Soul from the 60's and 70's blows away even the best of today's soul artists, and I can't believe that you have everything worth owning from the 60's and 70's...dig deeper.

dig it.. same answer if anyone asks about blues and jazz.

Anyhow, how about Syl Johnson ? (cotton had a song on his on a mix he had online to DL.)

EDIT: Ok Im off line for a while so I will just post the link:

Syl Johnson- I Hate I Walked Away

Also, check out the relevant Motown, Memphis other comps.. always finding new artists via collaboration projects or session players on well known records or albums by well known artists...
