my girlfriend and i along with another female friend went to the new pornos show last night. we managed to secure a spot about 8-10 rows from the stage, exit stage left by an emergency door -- along with the emergency exit security guy. now, i've never given a second thought to these muscleheads w/ low iqs, but this simpleton did such a good job of keeping away the stage crashers throughout the whole show and providing us with "our" space that i decided to tip the guy $20 and thanked him for a job well done.

the show wasn't "crazy," but as a sorta "older guy near the stage" the way this guy sent people back to keep his and "our" area clear and "safe", i felt that he deserved some kind of recognition.

I always think our security does an awesome job. They are mostly University of Nebraska athletes and tend to take their job serious enough without being complete pricks. Our Event staff/ushers who also handle a bit of security are usually crotchety and old, and take things way to serious or are downright lazy and expect my staff to handle their business.
As for Indie shows in Omaha, I think they do a great job too. They are a little slow in opening the doors for pat downs before big shows, but they keep the security crew down to a limited number of people who don't really impact the show. Arena's tend to overstaff security crews and they negatively effect alot of shows.

Damn fine of you, mojo. Those guys get punched and puked on, and not all of them are jerks. People only notice them when something goes wrong.

You're just trying to build a relationship with him so you can ask him to take care of a problem squirrel for you. Am I right? Am I right?

Edit for non-oldtimers: I do mean "problem squirrel" and not "problem squirrgel" Not suggesting squirrgel need to be taken care of.

the psychology teacher at my school was the security guard at the charlottesville rolling stones show i went to, and happened to be right next to my row.
it was a funny coincidence. he also did security for the elton john show that came around recently. i don't know what else he's done. but he's nice. and lucky

Anyone with the means MUST go to their gallery. The bandmembers' names are Jade, Falcon, Krystal and Kane.

I, Cap'n Squirrgle, do hereby promise, that these band pics will not disappoint.

while this type might have had a .22 rifle stashed in the gunrack of his pickup for open season on rodents, i did tell him to work april's built to spill show (not that i'm expecting that show to sell out).

I mean... the scary bass chick and the "mystical" singer, and then the guitarist names himself Falcon and wears sweatpants, a T-shirt and glasses?!? Breathtaking.

I used to be one of those Yellow-shirted security "Event Staff" guys at the big shed here in Nashville (it's actually in Antioch). I fucking hated it. Depending upon where I was stationed, I had to pat down about 1000 or more dudes. It was weird and I always left feeling like I had lost my dignity.
Pearl Jam and Dave Matthews bands had the hottest girls at the shows BY FAR. The other shows were full of drunk and toothless hillbillies coming to see Skynyrd and the like.
ZZ Top was the coolest show I worked at, but this guy standing right in front of me (behind the barricade) kept asking me if I could get him backstage to meet the guys, etc. He was persistent and I was just ignoring him and dreaming of all the harm I wanted to do to him (polite but firm...). Supervisor saw what was going on and told the guy to chill and then moved me to a different part of the pavillion.
The worst show I worked at was Jimmy Buffett. Obnoxious, obnoxious, obnoxious fans. 90% of the crowd was drunk and just didn't give a shit about trying to be cooperative with any of our polite but firm requests to form lines by gender.

Here's to the security people for never looking in the shoe. The best place to store weed and a one-hitter.
