Sorry if there was a thread about this already..

I don't think this is a Times Select piece, so it should be viewable by all throughout the week. It's a delightfully long article about BSS, the Toronto scene, etc.

yeah, i read this yesterday. this is basically for people who aren't into music. (and i mean that in a "if you've picked up a music magazine in the last two years, only a little bit of this article is news" way.)

really? i read it yesterday and i didn't get much out of it that i didn't already know about the current toronto music scene and/or broken social scene. and i think broken social scene's tremendously overrated and haven't really searched out interviews or music by them in a couple years, so i just figured i knew what i knew through other sources that weren't directly about BSS. also, one of my friends felt similarly. although, it was interesting to learn that they took a masseuse on tour with them last year. i don't imagine many "indie" bands have that luxury.

I thought it was a very well-written, attentive piece that did a lot (for me, the uneducated music fan that I am) to place both the idea of the musical collective in a broader, historical context, as well as laying out a framework for just how collective/authentic BSS truly is. I can't remember the last article I read about BSS that dared to introduce asides about how happy everyone truly is with the status quo of the group and so on.

As to the "you're not indie if.." tangent you started on...that truly has no bearing on my opinion of the music. I didn't like MIA's music before the Honda ad and I still don't like MIA's music.
