I have heard this song done by Jim Carroll, DBT and now Porter Hall, TN...

BEST SONG EVER?

I got the original, but never heard the DBTs or the other version. I'm off AIM right now, so I'll maybe grab it tomorrow. I should probably get Alabama Ass Whuppin' off you to, I've never heard that album either.

Awesome, man. I'm glad you brought this up because I always forget to ask you for that DBT album.

Now I'm gonna go have some reds and a bottle of wine.

This was high up there for me in high school. I remember I got this for xmas one yr. Jim Carroll is such an underrated artist. Hell, even his biopic rocked. It would make it into my top 10 favorite songs to be sure.

"Catholic Boy" is a perfect album. Jim Carroll was a monger extraordinaire. Read his "Basketball Diaries" and you learn that every line in "People Who Died" is biographical.

Yeah, I know we had a convo about this rigt around the time the board started. Hell, I think it was out of that Igot the first mix you sent me, with Wreckless Eric and Jason and the Scorchers on it.

And seriously, I remember losing my shit when the Truckers closed with this when me and Benny saw em NYE 2003-04. Everyone at that show should be in prison.

The part about
"He thought he could beat it by ratting out some bik-ers,
He said I know its dangerous, but it sure beats Ri-kers
The very next day he got killed, by the very same bi-kers"

is just too fucking awesome.

I think I listened to this 3 or 4 times this morning.

I think its the female backing vocals that make this version so qual. IN the 2 hoursI drov eto Monty, I prolly backed it up 4 or 5 times.

It's a good song but I think the thing that keeps it from greatness, for me anyways, is that it's kind of a gimmick song ala 50 Ways To Leave Your Lover.
