I'm 28, married, and my job gives me some life insurance and a small amount of disability insurance. Do I really need to supplement this with additional coverage? I had a hair up my ass to get some more life insurance while i'm still young, but since then I've decided that insurance is a total scam. The main argument for it that i'm wrestling with is that we want to buy a house soon, and since i make 90% of the money, were something to blissfully happen to me i don't want the wife to lose the house. Still, we don't have a house NOW, i could get coverage later, but if i buy a house i'm probably not going to be stoked about buying other amorphous shit. Anyone got any advice one way or the other? This is pissing me off.

life insurance is real cheap through your work so i would but some additional, especially if you own a house or have kids.

at least, it is where i work. i've maxed out as far as i could go w/o needing an exam. it's like a couple dimes per 25k or something crazy like that.

This "hair" wouldn't be your wife would it? Cause that would pretty much freak me out if my wife were bugging me to get life insurance even if I agreed it was a good idea in the abstract.

That said, its probably pretty cheap given your age assuming you have good health and a decent family health history.

oddly enough no, although she would probably make out like gangbusters if i were to die. luckily she's not good at math, so she hasn't figured out the ROI for that yet. i'm just at that point where i want to make sure that nothing obvious is going to crop up and fuck me over, now that i actually give a shit about my life and stuff. it's called "growing up" i guess.

if you get that shit through work and dont have to write the check, then do it....

it'll just be like taxes, you wont even notice it coming out after awhile...

besides if work picks it up, usually you can have that shit come out pre-tax dollar so over all it ends up being even cheaper than you'd think....

besides protecting the significant other is just a good karma thing to do man....

or: a place where you are more valuable dead than alive.

I'm not much help on this brother, but assuming that what you've through your company is enough to at least stabilize her until she could get shit straight with the (future) house (or second mortgage the son of a bitch when "Dexter" moves in) I think I'd wait until you guys have some kids to start persuing the big boy shit.

Edit: gramma

Ehhh, yeah, it's usually so cheap at your age that if you've got anything to lose by Not having it, it's better to get it now. It only gets more expensive later.

You gonna die young and leave a beautiful corpse, C?
