In this unique concert, the legendary Paul McCartney returns to Studio 2 at London's Abbey Road Studios (where most of the Beatles' recordings were made) for a fascinating journey through his songwriting career, from his very first Beatles song to the work for his new album, CHAOS AND CREATION IN THE BACKYARD. Using a selection of vintage instruments from his own collection -- including the bass played by Bill Black on Elvis Presley's original recording of "Heartbreak Hotel" and the Mellotron mixing console used by the Beatles -- McCartney revisits his back catalogue in new and revealing ways before an intimate studio audience. McCartney reinterprets old songs and new songs, performs some terrific cover versions, and enlists the audience's help in a demonstration of "in the moment" songwriting and arranging. Among the songs performed are "Blackbird," "Band on the Run," "Lady Madonna," and many others.

In Chicago:
TONIGHT (2/27) 10:00 PM -- Channel 11 (WTTW)

Will someone tape this for me, in case I can't stay awake for it?

I'll tape it.

Shit, now I'll have to pledge money when they have the drive cause they'll undoubtedly give that DVD away as a pledge gift.

It's an improvement from the dual mullets he sported with Linda.

He looks like my grandma. But her back catalog sucks.

Hair-dying really disturbs me.

Okay, so I was able to stay awake for the first part of this (I get up at 5:15 every morning) and I have to say...

it was just okay.

Some kinda fun stuff. The new material is pretty good.
But I had to turn it off when he started mutilating "Lady Madonna".

Overall, what I saw was a bit disappointing.

I thought it was fascinating. I was totally into it. He told some really great stories. I loved tha last part where he made up a song on the spot by playing an instrument and then looping it and adding another instrument that he would play. It was cool seeing him play drums, then piano, then bass, then guitar, then lead guitar, then singing and hearing a song.

Yeah...
All I caught was the first 4 songs or so.
I heard it got better toward the end.
So, of course, that is the part that I missed!

EDIT: And "Lady Madonna" was an abortion.

It's funny how we both had different thoughts of what it would be like going in, and how we both received different impressions after seeing it.

The end was definitely better than the beginning.
