Is anyone psyched at all about this? Its the first Ive heard of it, and I dont see how a 10-inch computer could be the 'ipod killer'.

Something like that just looks unwieldy. If I was gonna carry that, I'd carry my laptop with me.

i honestly havent got a clue of what to make of this. i havent heard anything that makes it anymore than a tablet, but if its cheap it could be a winner.

I asked them about this when I was in their offices on Monday. The guy said the idea is to get it down to a much smaller size, only slightly larger than a PDA.

In one place I read of a 600-1000 price point, but Im not sure how credible that is. At the low end, it may be worth it, but for 1000.. meh

It won't touch the Ipod sales at all. Regardless of its video capabilities, the Ipod is a music player and people buy it for that. And this Microsoft thing is a computer, plain and simple, and it'll feel like a computer to people. If it can't fit in a pocket, I highly doubt people are going to flock to it like they do to the Ipod. However, as a small computer, it might not be a bad thing. But when I can build myself a home computer for $300, they're going to have a hard time convincing me to plop down at least twice that for a computer this small. Price it well under $500 and they might have something - but they won't.

Prediction: it'll be a flop, and in addition to the usual Windows problems, it'll also have all kinds of hardware issues. It's a Microsoft product, of course.

But I think microsoft isnt going after the ipod directy here. Instead, they are trying to (half-assedly) promote a new approach to personal computing- or it seems to me. Get them to use during school, work, setting the temperature at home, and ultimately it will replace the ipod indirectly in that- you can additionally listen to your music.

And there is no way you can price that "well under 500"- The parts alone will cost close to that, then add in profit.

I agree that it will probably flop - but maybe it will light a fire in the portable pc market.. i want something like this, but one that works.

The first company to successfully merge iPod, PSP, PDA, digital camera and cell phone in a single high-capacity (100+ GB & 5+ megapixel) wins.

The only real new thing in it is the touch keyboard layout that appears at the edge of the screen for you to use your thumbs on.

Other than that, its just a small tablet.
