Remember all that shit about them/Bennet from a few months' back? Well, the story continues. The quote below is from my friend and all-around tremendously supportive scene promoter guy Ben about more WH drama for a show they were supposed to play this weekend:
Quote:
Whitehouse has opted to back out of their show with Wolf Eyes and Secret Diary on Monday March 5th 2006 at Great Scott in Boston. This news was given to their tour booker on Thursday, and got to me today (Friday) via the folks booking for Wolf Eyes. The reason I was given was as follows.
The last time Whitehouse played Boston, they didn't play. Consumer Electronics did a solo set because William Bennet didn't find the sound system at Bill's Bar to be up to their standards. The other artists that night, Psychic Paramount, Karlheinz, and Secret Diary all found the sound system to be just fine and played great sets. Whitehouse was upset because they felt the bar's sound staff did not 'understand' them, and thus would not be able to do them proper service.
About 100 people went out and paid $10 on a Monday night to see the first Whitehouse show in years in Boston and they were denied, based on what I felt and still feel was bullshit. I posted on some message boards, why the show went how it did, and explained that quite simply they were the hardest act to work with to date, and nothing would have been good enough. Whitehouse plays harsh, abrasive noise sets and it is my personal feeling that when an artist plays music as extreme as they do, they should have some level of understanding that every soundman/woman, in every venue, in every city might not be as used to their sound. Anyhow, they were jerks and I called them on it.
Whitehouse just got word of this, and feels that because I called them out, I would not be doing them service at this show at Great Scott. So, with just a weekend before the event they pulled out.
I am sorry to the fans who were looking forward to the Wolf Eyes / Whitehouse combo. I can say Wolf Eyes, Secret Diary, and the TBA will still be an amazing show worth going to for sure. Whitehouse came to Boston and didn't even play, yet they took their fans money. They wanted to come back, wanted $1,000.00, hotel rooms, someone to drive them around, and a backline. Oh well.
