Just recently got into some afro-beat and cuban-afro stuff like Antibalas and Daktaris. I'm not big into the jamminess quotient, but I like the dubby stuff, horns, and lots of polyrhythms. Anybody have further recommendations?

For an obvious suggestion that I imagine you've heard before (at least his name), I say Fela Kuti. Much like Neil Young, you can't go too wrong with his 70s output.

The Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble is solid, too, and features a member from one of the last lineups of Fela's band.

I'm not sure what's afro-cuban about those bands so I'll hold off on recommending any afro-cuban. I can recommend some but it wouldn't sound anything like Antibalas or Daktaris

Those bands are more straight up Afro Beat in style.

Fela is obvious as are some of his band members, esp. Tony Allen

Others:

Blo
Peter King
Lafayette Afro Rock
Manu Dibango
Segun Bucknor
TP Orchestre Poly-Rythmo
Geraldo Pino
Matata

There's also quite a few good comps from recent years:

Afro Rock
Boonaiy
Ghana Soundz 1 & 2
The Danque

& buy anything that you see with Brigth Engelberts on it. I've never heard a song by him that I haven't loved. Unfortunately, I don't think any of his stuff has ever been released on cds except a song here or there on compilations and I've never come across any lps either.

Lol, his stuff was my favorite from your Afrobeat comp. I have been searching all around for more of his stuff, but so far no luck.
