great song, bad video.

combined with "i am the resurrection", their first album is bookended by two of the cockiest songs ever written.

I think I bought that album in 2000, but didn't get past the opening track until 2003. It's just that freakin' good.

Not to nitpick, but "Fool's Gold" is the last track on the record. Not that that's a humble song by any stretch; "I'm no clown, I won't back down, don't need you tell me what's going down."

But I dig your point.

This thread is totally speaking my language. One of my favorite bands, if not the undisputed fave.

Not to nitpick, but "Fool's Gold" wasn't on the original album, you johnny-come-lately you.

Edit: the Obnerer love for the Stone Roses puzzles the hell outta me. I mean, not bad pop rock, but jeeeezuschrist.

The thing about the Stone Roses debut album is they took the weakest track on the album and then stuck in on again, this time backwards and 2 minutes longer. I never quite followed the logic there.

Apart from that it's good.

Yeah, that's the only real chink in the armour. I don't even have that track loaded on the ipod, so it really is all good.

Anyone here ever hear their true debut, the one recorded for Virgin?

I snagged it for $10 at a Wherehouse Records that was going out of business in 2000. It'd been there for years as a $35 import, so I was geeked beyond belief to get it.
Sounds nothing like the s/t record. Dunno if I like it or not since I probably haven't listened to it in 3 years. I should revisit it soon.

are you talking about garage flower?
i paid ridiculous import price for it. i thought it was just demo's? haven't listened to it in a looong time. i remember it being pretty rough sounding.

or are you talking about the fantastic sally cinnamon ep that came out before the s/t?

"Garage Flower"
That's it, thanks. I couldn't think of the title.
Copy I have says Virgin Records on it, though I do remember it actually being just a bunch of demos that were supposed to lead to the debut record, and not an actual formal release itself.
Pretty stellar when you hear where they started vs. where they ended up.

I really wish they would remaster this album. All those great songs and it sounds like shite.

Sorry man, I think it's a total misfire and puts a bit of a blemish on an otherwise perfect debut album, for me anyway. It's an album I throw on when going for a walk on a sunny day and when that song used to come on, it would ruin the mood with its pointless wankery. Once digitally removed, the album is stellar.

I can honestly say I don't own this Stone Roses album, but yes, always loved the song. Unfortunately, the first time I heard it was in this one guy's dorm room... I thought I liked him, until I found out he was the biggest loser of all time, even down to faking an accent to sound like a foreign exchange student. Once I knew the accent was fake, I lost all interest. ;)
