I was wondering if you can burn discs of the unlimited songs you can download. If they take away your license to play downloaded songs, could you theoretically download and burn a ton of discs in a month and then cancel?

I was thinking of signing up for a month to download a bunch of Instant Live discs and then burn them, instead of buying the discs seperately.

Well, there's no direct or "legal" way to burn your downloaded songs (without paying a steep additional fee per track), but you can always use a program to record audio directly from your sound card. This, of course, will not sound as good as the actual downloaded files but it may be "good enough" for you.

Files from Napster sound bad, by the way.

They are 128kbs.
I only get stuff from there or iTunes that are exclusives. I have my eyes set on a huge pile of exclusives.

This Napster deal is a complete ripoff. What a joke. You never actually own your music, even if you've been paying for it for 15 years. How does this equate to a good deal in anyone's mind?

If I can own it for a month, then burn it, then rip it, I can have it forever.

It looks like their site answered my question.

http://www.napster.com/more_about_napster.html

It says you can "burn and transfer" with a Napster membership. If I can burn then I can rip, and then I have.

"burn to CD or transfer to a compatible player for as low as 80ยข a song"

Like I said earlier, you have to pay extra to burn tracks unless you use the "alternative" method I mentioned.

You pay to burn, my friend.

What you can do is get a program that records streaming audio at high bit rates (up to 320) and use your unlimited streaming privileges you get when you sign up for the monthly service to play the songs, using your program to record them. It is time consuming, in that you have to actually play the songs, but it works excellently well, the program tags the files accurately most of the time and its really impossible to tell the difference from a CD ripped at 320 kbps.

But if the files are only 128kbps to begin with, wouldn't they end up sounding like complete shit? And you have to pay extra to burn them? I'm sorry but I don't see how that's worth paying for. *shrug* :?

'Tisn't. Tis an attempt to capture every last penny of what they figure you'll pay. It will not last. The crash will be audible.

what was that noise?

I want some Collective Soul and Cult Instat Live discs.
To get just one of each will cost me over $50 total to buy the cds. They should both be double discs though.
