THANK YOU! you are ACES! (i'm sorry. i can't remember who it was.)

a friend hooked me up with Axxess & Ace
and i'm LOVING it! this is soooo up my alley.

you also suggested .... low... and same friend
hooked me up with 'things we lost in the fire'.
i haven't listened yet. but i have high hopes for it.
it's up next.

as a sidenote: .... i learned that jason molina
grew up in the next city over from me. literally
5 minutes from here. how had i never heard of
him before! duh!

anyway.....

this board has REALLY come through for me in the past couple of works as far as opening me up to new tunes. timis introduced me to DAISY MAY and .... she's DEFINITELY becoming a FAVORITE. (along with seth bernard)

Do you like Neil Young? Molina is ripping his schtick.

Awesome!

Next up should be:
Didn't It Rain
Magnolia Electric Co.
Impala
Hecla & Griper (very Will Oldham-like)
The Lioness

Maybe in that order. I've been really digging Impala lately, which is kind of like a rougher Axxess & Ace.

Hope you like that Low album, too. It's a beautiful record.

Yea. My favorite of the year it came out and the last Low album I really liked.

Well, yeah, if you dig Songs: Ohia, (especially Didn't It Rain) you definitely need to hear Neil Young's On the Beach. That's one of my favorite albums ever.

But Molina isn't just "ripping" Young's "schtick". I mean, you'll be hard pressed to find a singer/songwriter from the past 20 years that doesn't carry some degree of Neil Young influence. Molina can be a little more blatant about it sometimes (more recently by covering "Tonight's the Night"), but there are a lot of other influences in his music. The early stuff even has a little bit of a Celtic sound to it.

As usual, I agree with all that Drinky has said in this thread. I'd also add that "Ghost Tropic" and Jason Molina's "Pyramid Electric Co." definitely warrant listens.

Talking to you the other night, Jen, I was going to ask if you were into Songs:Ohia, by virtue of your location.

Dig!
