At local art studio the other day with wife and kids, talking with owner.

This 20-ish sweet-smelling, Belle & Sebastian t-shirt wearing, vision of radiant calmness floats through the room, is introduced and we chat about the music playing (The Innocence Mission) and random bits of nothing for a few moments.

Within minutes I learn she likes The Lilac Time, has read every Todd McEwen book, thinks the original Solaris is an awesome movie and has always been fascinated with Easter Island.

Meanwhile, my wife is cracking up, I can tell. She doesn't give two half-shits about most of my music and is WAY more aggressive than this little honey-waif.

On the way home, she's still laughing and asks if I got that "Indie Jennifer's" phone number, cuz I might miss my chance for true love.

She'll probably get a chuckle out of this for another week or so.
Amused instead of threatened. I guess that's a good thing....errm...

A partner that trusts in the relationship definitely comes off as hott. I should remember this in times of weakness & silly threatened-ness.

An encouraging vision of my would-be future. Though I think we're all but there anyway after just 2 years-ish. She knows I wake up thinking I'm incredibly lucky every day.

It helps that my wife is very smart, tolerates my loquaciouness and has substantial...um...biological accoutrements.

Which matters more than if she likes Belle and Sebastien any day.

She was a gawky, anorexic, insecure teenager, but has a fantastic father and step-father who both encouraged her that she could be and do anything she set out to do.

I think she appreciated that I understood the smart and interesting part of her and didn't mind the insecure part. Over the years the gawkiness and insecurity have faded and she's very cool now.

She went through years of health problems, medications, misdiagnoses and sundry crap to get there, though.

Was 125 pounds (at 5' 10 1/2") when I met her, nearly doubled that by five years ago because of difficult pregnancies and medications.

But, now that she's off all meds and has found other approaches to dealing with childhood traumas, she's back down to a still-Amazonian, but physically awesome 175, so yeah, she's Wonder Woman-y.

Once at one of Josh's solo shows this young woman pulled a seat right up in front of him and just seemed very entranced.

Afterwards I saw her go up to him, say something then she left. Apparently she told him that his songs changed her life. ??? I thought it was rather cute but funny.

Every so often he's had a chick hit on him in some bizarre way at shows. I don't care. It's part of it all.

With him, I've been the most secure and happy in a relationship. You just either have it or you don't. You'll know when you do.

Only if the woman needs coddling. My wife and I have been through so much shit together, typing out her weight is the least of sins. There's also the fact that she WAS at 230, but is NOW back down to 175 and will probably be back to 150 by this time next year. That's pretty impressive.

Besides, my point was to illustrate her "Amazonian" nature. I never said anything about her being fat. She's not.

Only two women to ever hit on me at a show were a very aggressive 45-ish mom and a very frightening 5'0" 200 lb-er. "Thas ok darlin, I'll give you a ride home." Oh boy. Wife was there for the first, and was highly amused.
