Yesterday, I was fondly reminiscing with a co-worker about the brilliant musical legacy of Ray Stevens, when an awesome band name struck me like a vine to the back of the head from Guitarzan himself...

Don't Look, Ethel!

I will be crushed if some band out there already has that as a name.

Did Ray ever team up with Shel Silverstein? That woulda been righteous.

If it were a smarmy all-gays outfit, like Pansy Division, they could get away with it...

But, as for cool (unused?) band-names, how about Car Alarm Chorus?

I'm guessing you've already put your bid in for Vincent Gallo's spootie? Try not to drink it too fast.

After watching a Fuse network bloopers show this weekend, I think that I think that

Parting the Red Sea

would be a great band name. Especially for an atraditional Christian rock band, a la Pedro the Lion. (I say "atraditional" because, where most Christian rock would fall into the "lock-step-with-the-Republican-Religious-Right" side, I don't necessarily get that sense from Mr Bazan.)

There's a local band called "Chop Me Into Pieces And Say Yeah!" I thought that was pretty funny.

For me it's "The Last Bongo Sunset" inspired by the sweet book by Les Plesko.

There was "I Love Ethel". They had a decent record, and their cover of "No Quarter" absolutely makes the "Song Retains The Name" compilation.

I'm partial to "Yo Daddy and the I Don't Give a Fucks"

We're just gonna take the stage. Play one note, and then wade into the crowd like Vikings.

And Ethyl Meatplow.

My future band will be called Plankton Boy. It is the perfect name for a band. Feel free to steal it!

Yeah- they were right up the road from me in Sacramento. Good coverage from an interesting band.

I still can't believe there's never been a band called the Dirty Needles.
