From Billboard.com

With Garbage on a hiatus of undetermined length, frontwoman Shirley Manson has begun work on her first solo album. The artist tells Billboard.com she recently completed a track with U.K. film composer David Arnold, with whom she collaborated on the theme song for the 1999 James Bond film "The World Is Not Enough."

"I just went to London last week and we wrote a song together," she says. "It was really quick and fast and it was really good fun." Manson admits with a laugh that beginning to write with other people is "scary and really exciting and super-freaky. It feels really weird to talk about it!"

Manson says she has no timetable for completing the project and is more interested in enjoying herself. "I've got no timetable. I'm sort of sick of timetables, to be honest," she says. "I just want to live my life a little freely and not adhere to any schedule -- just make music and have fun."

The artist acknowledges Garbage fans were confused by the mixed messages surrounding the start of the band's hiatus last fall, but insists, "We're still together, absolutely. We all feel like we want to go off and do a variety of things. [Drummer] Butch [Vig] is going back into production and some other guys are working on film soundtracks."

"Being the chaotic bunch we are, we should have put a press release together but we didn't," she adds. "We were quite taken aback by how big a deal was made of it. But we love each other and we still want to work together. We're just taking a break. We've had a crazy decade."

Oooooooooh. Nice one.

I have to say that fronting Garbage is a case study of diminishing returns:

Debut s/t ---------> Great
2.0 -------->Very Good
Beautiful Garbage ------> Barely OK
Bleed For Me ------> Pretty Bad

I hope this solo work turns out to be good. I want to believe that.

I think I would definitely give it a listen. I like her voice. It's kind of like she sings with a stuffy nose. But I like it.

Could be because you'd be fumbling around not knowing what you were doing.

Not sayin' anything dude, but you walked right into this one.

Welcome to the board, BTW. What brings you to this little corner of the Internets?

Garbage is one of those bands I have a few CDs from and *never* think about listening to.

its probably about time she went and did something on her own. garbage has been creatively dead since at least their second album, if not their first.

She's going to do her Love.Angel.Music.Baby pop endeavor I guess. Isn't she about 40 now? Still hot though as far as I'm concerned.

As far as Garbage being on hiatus...I could have sworn I remember reading 4 or so years ago that the band agreed to disband after their 4th album.

I've barely listened to Bleed Like Me...which is weird because I used to really like Garbage.

I couldn't agree with you more. I knew Bleed For Me was going to be bad when I hated Beautiful Garbage, and the lead single from Bleed For Me was a song scrapped from the prior album.

This will only enliven the idiots that posited that "Stupid Girl" was a dis song directed at then-frontwoman of No Doubt Gwen Stefani, when, in point of fact, Garbage was recorded in '94-5, before No Doubt was even a blip on the pop-culto-musico radar. (Tragic Kingdom, while released in '95, didn't take until early- to mid-'96.)

Got-damn! My friends back then were stupid, and haters. At least I know that one got fat, and without he and his band ever overthrowing the statal-capitalist mafia (New Blind (Bomb) Nationals forever, brahs), while another is still a college dropout and still stocking shelves on the third-shift at Target.

Hahah.
