really, is it that important to wait outside for hours in the cold to go in an "irish" bar just to drink green Miller Lite? must be, because the outside of every irish pub i've seen today has a giant line. I'm either going to a non-irish bar or home. Either way, I'll Irish it up myself.

yeah, non-Irish bar for me too, but it's got a killer jukebox, strong happy hour drinks and a perpetual smoky haze.

edit: and most importantly, it's stumbling distance from my house.

the worst part of it is that the longest line is outside of Fado's, which is a chain. So essentially they're waiting outside to get into an Irish TGI-Fridays.

hee, yeah, Fado's. The one in Portland closed after only being open about a year. The big Irish bar here is called Kell's, but it too is a chain. No way in hell I'll be there this evening.

Another big place for drinks around here today is a place called Jake's, which supposedly, if you don't get there by 2, there's a line to get in thereafter. Which I don't get, because it's not even an Irish bar.

waiting in line for any bar doesn't make any sense to me.

oh my. I've had an extremely drunken night at the exit. All I remember is fire, chain link fences, and motorcycles.

i've never been there before. I was at one bar and two of my friends kidnapped me and took me there and got me really drunk.

That actually sounds like a Ministry concert, circa 1990.

going to an irish bar on st patricks day might be worse than going to a burrito joint on cinco de mayo: kill yourself.

....damn, you're on some friggin Jame-o bigtime, girly.

That irish band I played with for a while up here had a Jameson night once, where Jame-o sent a few chicks down with promotional goodies. I got a shot glass and a slutty t-shirt for the Mrs.

The "buy the band a shot" shot of choice for the whole 3 yrs we played there was jame-o, usually in a piss-warm shot glass.

I think I'd die if I drank a full bottle in 2 days. Or at least I'd pray for death. Sometimes I had to fake taking the shots - a trick Busty taught me.

People buy them, = good for the bar, and hooray for everybody and all that. But pedal steel is fuckin Hard to play, and I used to have to drive and go to work an shit, so if I'd already had 3-4 beers, I couldn't really take like 2 or 3 of them. So I'd say "thanks!" and then take the shot, grab my beer, and pretend like I was swigging afterwards, only to spit the shot into the bottle.

I went to Fado's once. An old man fell down the stairs and a doctor friend gave him medical attention. That's all I've got.

Unless it's paid for, I'm not going to any Irish Bars tonight...not even with one I really like well within stumbling distance of the new casa...

It's all about buying some beers to go along w/ the Trek 830 I have to assemble and the cheesy horror films I'll pick up on the way home...

i believe i may be going to an irish bar - but i think since i wont be getting home from sacto until around 9 - i may be late enough to avoid it and just get drunk somewhere else.
