I was chatting up a couple of members from the Mystery Jets last night. Since they happened to be at SXSW, the topic was which bands they got to check out while there. One of them was a band called "Man Man", who are apparently from Philadelphia (I'm looking at you, Cotton). Does anyone know anything about them? The MJ members were very impressed and have me intrigued.

one of the guys who just left the band recently went to my high school He was a douchebag.

That said I really, really like this band. I know some people that hang out with them, but I ain't one of them and was several months late on the first album.

Hmmm...sound like Need New Body? Cripes, that immediately killed my interest. I...uhm..."experienced" NNB last year -- can't remember who they opened for -- and thought they were one of the worst bands I have EVER seen. I like experimental shit, but their attempt at music was utter piss. Not to mention, I was exposed to ass crack and horrible body odor the entire time they were onstage.

If someone would be most kind to post a YSI, I'd like to check these cats for myself to form a true opinion.

Merci.

see, this is why you should be checking out my mixes.
I'll put one up when I get home if nobody else has. There was an exclusive track on pitchfork not too long ago, an incredible one at that.

For what it's worth, I think they sound a lot more like Tom Waits/Beefheart with a big band to NNB.

Love "The Man In the Blue Turban With a Face". Like "Six Demon Bag".

Hate Need New Body (live).

Tania, hit me up on AIM.

I saw this band a couple of months back and they're AWESOME. extremely tight, kind of funny but so serious that it's very impressive. i likey the new album a lot, if you can't find it let me know. my favorite description of their sound that i've heard: love songs for carny's. (not sure if that's the right way to spell carny, but hopefully you all know what i mean).

Where did I read the Zappa/Beefheart parallels being made? Some review somewhere. Also, I think there was a mini article on them in Big Takeover some months back as well.

I'd like to check them out as well.

probably. I remember distinctly reading one over there. But then again I read like 2 or 3 others as well. But that sounds about right.

Just realized that these jails did that Werewolf on the Hood of Your Heartbreak song from that mix a while back.

Frighteningly awesome song.
