Driving home this weekend, I came up with an idea for a podcast where I would spin a quartet of songs all with a common theme, such as "Songs to Get Kids Hooked on Indie Music" or stuff like that. Each podcast would have a different theme. I was thinking about calling this podcast something like "The Fractastic Four."

So, before I make a run at this, does it even seem like an idea/concept worth pursuing? I figure if I can keep the songs in the 2-3-minute range (4:00 max, on occasion) and encode at 192 kbps, this should end up being maybe around 15 minutes in length and not too ridiculously enormous of a file size to download.

What say ye, O Obnish?

Yeah, I definitely need to spend additional time constructing more concise and compelling themes. I'll probably get some better ideas as I peruse my record collection. To me, it really just expands upon many of the music-related threads we have on Obner.

I like it but eventually you'll run out of themes.

I tought I was gonna do a straight up power pop podcast but it got old for me fast so now it's anything and everything.

That's my main fear. I always get real excited about starting up a new online endeavor, but can never sustain for any significant period of time (SEE: Displeasure, Hip).

Try to stick to it...and with 4 songs, you can revisit themes.

Your blog was pretty fucking cool, Bob. It almost inspired me to write my own, but as usual, I ended up getting drunk instead.

Give it a shot, mate.

See, the problem is that I am the laziest human alive, as evidenced by my non-drunken SXSW slumber.

I think I could give you a run for your money.

thematic casts like that are always dicey. When I was station manager of my college station, we had a few and they would start off great but then flame out before too long. I ended up having to say to people who wanted to do something thematic, to program an entire semester. If you plan ahead, this could be very cool, especially if you do some crazy parallels. Otherwise, I fear this idea will falter.

Yeah, you also have to remember that themes are what YOU make em.

So, you know songs about dying or living or loving (or maids) can go on forever.

And then you can eventually just chop up shit and do a JAIL mix and then a MONGER mix...what's the difference you say? LooGAR's choice.

C'mon Lummox!!

true, but I'd think ol FT there would want to put a little more thought into his mix, considering all these discerning Ob tastes floating around.
