So I met a woman in a graveyard today.

You have to admit that's a pretty great opening line for a story.

Anyway, I was photographing neo-classical grave architecture, as any sane person would do, at Glasgow's fantastic Victorian necropolis.

I was crouched in an awkward position pressed against the iron bars of a Corinthian temple style crypt, trying to get a photo of the anguished sculpture within, when I became aware of a girl behind me, seemingly intrigued at what I was up to.

When I looked round, she smiled and, perhaps more importantly didn't run away screaming, an inaction that I take rare encouragement from.

Sauntering over with the confidence of a man with an impressively long telephoto lens I approached her with my quite brilliant opening line "Hi". You can use it if you like, it's a winner.

As I talked to her I remember being internally amazed at just how uncharacteristically clever and funny I was being. The words coming out my mishaped mouth (head butting incident, 1998) were virtually lyrical. I was a bard in a Berghuis jacket.

Now, I wish I could remember what I said so I could use it again, but as we will find out soon enough, memory isn't my strong point.

So on reaching the point at which our paths diverted I asked her for her e-mail address (I don't do phones) and when she gave me it, I decided I would hammer the point home that I am, infact, immensely intelligent. "I won't write it down, I'll just remember it" I claimed. I got a semi-impressed laugh. It should have been a derisive one.

Of course when I got home, could I remember the e-mail? Of course I couldn't. It beings with 'K' and then has '_' then after that an other letter which I think might be 'L' and then some numbers. I can't remember the domain at all.

Here's one of the four pictures that I took today that I've bothered to put on Flickr.

If this didn't have a sad ending this would be one of the better posts on this board in awhile

Is there an online "missed connections" for Glasgow you can place an add?

girls in graveyards=not so good.

I've hung out with 2 girls in graveyards, once it started raining, and I swear it was like a cutesy Cameron Crowe scene, but both never worked out, so therefore, if you meet or spend a memorable day in a gravesite with a girl (barring a funeral), its doomed to fail. Your lucky you forgot the email address, your mind did yr heart a favor.

Jesus, Darrin...must we always play your guardian angels and steer you in the proper direction?

Btw, I love that cemetery. I've taken quite a few photos myself at that beautiful place of sleep. Is the Tennant brewery still behind it?

If anyone on the board could confirm my complete lack of memory it would be you. How many times have you looked on as I lost my bank card stubbornly entering my 'remembered' PIN number, only for the machine to swallow it?

It's at least twice and possibly three times and you're only here 10 days a year.

I'm going hill walking today, perhaps I'll meet someone on the crags.

Then he tells her, that it was the one she gave him, and for her to repeat it back to him, in which he insists is not ther same as she told him before....the old switcheroo!

something like this has happened to me twice. once with a chick from a concert. (i said i'd memorize her phone#. FORGOT IT.) second with a chick who worked at a strip club (as a server) (she temporarily didn't have phone service so i said i'd send her an email even though she wasn't 100% sure the email address she gave me was accurate when she was willing to give me her phone # if i could only wait a couple weeks). always frustrating.

yep. I have pulled this trick a hundred times.

My favorite is waking up with a girls name and number in your cell phone (or an a bar napkin, in the days of old) that you don't even remember TALKING TO, much less hitting on/getting number.
Ahhh, the old days ;)

i would suggest the alphabet game
for putting the pieces together
its in your memory somewhere
start with
alphabet
boner
cat
dick
elephant
fingerbang

first word that comes to mind
probably figure the domain out

but ive never tried with numbers
because 1 is the first number i think of when i get to 1
