it fucking ROCKS!!!!!!!!

i'm not even a huge fan, but there are some great tunes on the new album, as well as a handful of duds. "Nothins Comin" is a rock out tune, "Candy Daze" is this surupy 70's thing, "Gross Out" is a pop punk fueled jam, and "Take Me Back" is the most radio friendly tune on the album, as well as my favorite track. Total summery, acoustic vibes. Sounds British. Love the harmonies on it.

"Take me back" is such a sweet tune. I keep having to replay "Fuck yeh" though.

I'll post something here if someone who hasn't heard it yet wants a track.

Here's a review:

The Vines are back with their third album 'Vision Valley', a surprise follow-up to 'Winning Days', considering Craig Nicholls' diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome (a form of autism) at the time. However, with professional assistance and a change to his "lifestyle", Craig Nicholls has responded well to his treatment. With these life changes undertaken, last September saw Craig able to enter a tiny Sydney studio with Australian producer Wayne Connolly and remaining band members Hamish Rosser (Drums) and Ryan Griffiths (Guitar) to record a set of tracks he had written in a spate of creativity during the previous couple of months. The result is the third album 'Vision Valley'.
There are no big production values, LA studios and hours of overdubs on this record. There are no touring plans. What there is are 13 tremendous new songs that veer from gorgeous summer pop to blistering garage stomp to scattergun punk to epic psychedelia from the band that has given us classic rock anthems such as 'Ride', 'Get Free', 'Highly Evolved' and 'Outtathaway!'. Album highlights include the searing attitude of 'Nothin's Comin', the rock 'n' roll stomp of 'Don't Listen To The Radio' and chundering riffage of 'Fuk Yeh'.

I always found that claim extremely dubious.

they won't tour because craig is VERY difficult to work with.

the album is surprisingly alright... much better than the last one (however i dig the artwork on winning days)

An open lie for publicity ala Wilco getting dropped from their label.

I gotta tell ya, I wasn't that impressed.

I mean first of all, if you're gonna try to get people to buy your album, lets have more than one song that's over 3 minutes long guys, really. Shit, 7 of the 13 songs are 2 minutes or less. What is this, 1954?

I mean these guys are on the semi-right track and have the potential. I know they can put out a good album. They've done it before. They just need to spend some more time getting it right.

no there is really something fucked with him... everyone here hates working with the vines because it's impossible to get anything done.

Maybe it was a misquote and they meant Down's syndrome

This, however, is the case - I think he joined not long after the "incident" at the Annandale with the Herald photographer.

On the other hand, I am looking forward to getting a bunch of other local releases from this month and next, that will likely be completely drowned in the requisite Vines hype (sour grapes? me?)

i liked their first album, believe it or not, i d/led their second one but never bothered to listen to it. i'll check this one out. i don't think a certain song length is a prerequisite for determining quality.

I liked the first one a lot and then completely lost interest and didn't care to check the second one out.
