in college i played in a lot of bands - some jazz combos, some rock, some funk. I knew this kid, he was a bit of an ass, and at that point a horrible musician, and i smoked pounds of weed with him, and he pissed away all of the friendship with me and several other people. he tried to steal equipment from me to feed his habit.

i don't really harbor much ill will, but it makes me sick to realize that, during the time it took me to get my Master's degree, he has made a debut album that is well-received enough in the uk to garner rave reviews and make uncut's #30 slot on the year-end list, ahead of things like björk and iron & wine, while i am currently without a band.

it's jealousy and dissatisfaction with my musical condition, despite the fact I am now Chuck D, M.S.
