No word yet on whether or not they'll continue to make the green jewel cases.

I don't care if they're clear or green, I just wish someone would make a jewel case that won't crack if you look at it the wrong way.

Well, another one bites the dust, so to speak. Ryko, will always be remembered as the label that did a great job of reissuing in a time when it wasn't in vogue, and restarting several careers--I'm looking in your directions Zappa, Bowie and Costello. Not to mention the bands Morphine and Sugar.

Zappa must be turning over in his urn now that his entire catalog is owned by Warner. What irony.

Except that I believe Ryko only hand rights to distribute Zappa material until 2006 which is why only a little bit is streaming out of the Zappa Family Trust, and why what is out may go out of print soon. There was something to this effect on the official website months ago.

They have. It's called the Super Jewel Box and I don't know why more albums aren't issued in them. They are far superior to the standard jewel case.

I've got maybe 20 in my entire record collection.

I don't see this as being too big of a deal, as Warners basically bought 'em to beef up their Rhino reissue business. I do hope they put the kibosh on the green cases, though - I hate those fuckers.

And I hope this doesn't slow down the release of the upcoming Replacements reissues/box set ( which Ryko was involved in ) .

I think the first Ryko disc I ever bought was the Devo EZ Listening Disc and Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic. The Rhino crew appears to have their crap together--and it appeard that WEAC leaves 'em the hell alone. So if Ryko is absorbed by Rhino, and can benefit from the distribution strength of the parent, then this should be a good thing.

They had to finally admit a few years back that the whole river incident was just part of the Mats legend. It actually DID happen, but the tapes that were pitched weren't anything of major importance.
