I think they might've been bigger than they were if they'd have stayed on the "She Sells Sanctuary" path instead of veering into the neanderthal cliches of bad Zeppelin.

Lotta truth to that. If you've ever heard the aborted "Peace" album, you'll hear about 3/4 of "Electric" as produced by Steve Brown rather than Rick Rubin. The contrast is startling.

I like "Love" and "Sonic Temple" pretty much equally, for much different reasons. "Electric" serves as the perfect bridge, too.

Once, near the end of term, the teacher allowed us to put music on in class. Me and my friend Neil, at that time big Cult fans, managed to get hold of the 'ghetto blaster' and slipped in their latest album.

After about four bars of 'Fire Woman' virtually the whole class rushed the tape player, ejected the tape and threw it at our heads. If the teacher hadn't been there we may have suffered a worse fate.

Seriously, you've never seen such an adverse reaction to any music in your life. I mean, OK, 'Sonic Temple' wasn't a patch on 'Dreamtime' but still....

Ian is doing that as well, although I think they are calling themselves, Riders on the Storm now, as they arent even allowed to use Doors of the 21st Century anymore either...

Love is tremendous. I loved Electric and thought that the Peace album was too rock-slick. After Electric, I didn't have much use for them, except for some of that s/t record, which had some worthwhile experimental swaggery sounds on it.

Those are the only three I've heard. I tend towards Love a bit more because 'Revolution' is one of my favourites. Electric still sounds great to me, despite the inclusion of 'Born to Be Wild'.

One of my friends saw them in Boston last week and said they were one of the loudest bands he's ever heard, though he doesn't go to that many shows. He also said they were kind of dicks and made everyone wait for over an hour and then Billy Duffy started telling them to make some noise and everyone was pissed off by that point and he got irate and said something to the effect of "Do you know who we are? We're the fucking Cult!!".

Fair enough. I just have no tolerance for mediocrity. Or celebrated mediocrity for that matter.

...a door opens...
...the resident Cult expert walks in...

Hey fellas!

I'm jealous that you got to go to this Dov. The closest they were playing to Cincinnati was Cleveland, I think...

The only Cult discs not in my posession are the 6 disc box set you speak of (I'm assuming you don't have the one with the bonus disc 7) and the 6 disc demo box set that was sold out before I even knew about it because they only released 3000. I also don't have any of their current shows, all of which they are releasing on Instant Live

I also have all of their side projects discs, some of which I really liked, but were panned by the critics. I think the last brilliant thing they release was Wild Hearted Son. When Jamie Stewart left, they lost a lot of their polish, IMO.

If anyone has the 6 disc box set and is willing to sell it, please let me know.

Do you have the live Dreamtime video? Tell me Ian didn't look like the Toecutter from Mad Max.

The band was rather proud of themselves when they did speak to the crowd.....

but the rather notorious NYC snob rock crowds ate every minute up, and took all their grandoise posturing like rabid fans...

and in return, they said we were the best crowd on the tour! hah!!

they were great...

my box set didnt have the 7th disc.....I do like Ian Astbury solor record, and Holy Barbarians was hit and miss....

I have the Pure Cult DVD with all the videos on it, and I also have the Dreamtime Live at the Lyceum on VHS. I am not familiar with Mad Max, or Toecutter. postpixplz

Dov,

Do you have the Coloursound disc? It's Billy Duffy and the guy from the Alarm. It sounds very Cult like. Also Billy finished up a side project just before this tour called Circus Diablo with Billy Morrison and Matt Sorum that should be out later this year.

From reading the posts on the Cult BB, some of the crowds have been crappy, and others have been rocking. People who stood in different areas of the venues had different experiences. I have found that the more the crowd energizes the band, the better and longer they play.

Billzebub, I don't know about that comparison.
Wasn't Ian wearing a huge bandana on his head in the video?
