I know I included two compilations, but the material was released so close together that it's almost like one release.
Discuss.

Jesus, could you get any more obvious with those picks?

My pick: Blast! - The Power Of Expression [you CANNOT fuck with it]

Here's a track from it...

Blast! - I Don't Need 2

Shut up, prick.

I'm sorry I didn't include "Blast!" on my list. I don't have three days to list every fucking hardcore release of the early 80's on my poll here.

There's a reason they're obvious picks...on a board like this, where hardcore isn't really widely loved, people will still recognize and like them.

hardcore is the most popular music on this board. everyone on here owns at least 1 flannel shirt, and has at one time or another put an X on their hand and shouted 7 Seconds lyrics.

jeez, get with it.

Dammit!

This was the other pick I was going to include. I knew there was one I was forgetting. That really is an excellent album.

I think I was pretty fair with the other picks.

agreed. that was the most unnecessary hate post ever.

but what do you expect Dalen-----dude's mom obviously drank while she was preggers with him/his eyes are too far apart..............

I'll go with Fear- More Beer, though I was much more into metal back then----hardcore albums were like background noise compared to the thematic impact of things like [b]Among The Living[//b]

that's interesting Yail, 'cause i was kinda in transition at the time as well, listening to metal and then all sorts of punk and hardcore. metal at home in headphones, and then punk/hardcore when we'd all go skate. 2different vibes, both had their place [and still do in my life].

Still love the Bad Brains. Save Minor Threat & Circle Jerks, I don't own the other records.
<--- Obviously never reached flannel shirt status.

Yeah, I mean at the time (and I guess our frame of reference here is like 1986-89, right?) we were very much aware of bands like DRI, TSOL, Circle Jerks, etc. but we were the freestyle bike kids and our tastes ran more to the metal side of things whereas our skater brethern trafficked in the punk records.

In 1988, Nothings Shocking was really the firsy record (that I had heard) that threw all that on its ear; its a long story from there but N.S. and Louder Than Love (in '89) where real important. After that, metal and hardcore got combined with my other favorites (U2 and REM) and that begot goth and that well........ we all know where it goes from there......

The Misfits, BTW were the band that bridged the metalhead vs. hardcore fan divide. Discuss.

it's strange, but yeah, the bmx crew were always more fans of metal [exodus, hirax, slayer, etc], but they even got into the crossover stuff [corrosion of conformity, d.r.i., ludichrist]. most of the skateboard contests i skated in were with all punk fans [gbh, minor threat, subhumans, circle jerks were some of the favs].

weird how those 2 different styles of extreme sports drew different crowds musically.

as far as the misfits goes, i think that metallica were responsible for much of the metal community flocking to the misfits, as well as a few other bands.

I like the Descendents well enough and all, but I would never consider them hardcore.

You're a little angry over....well, nothing. All I said was I would never consider them hardcore, and this is a THREAD about hardcore, and you are posting other hardcore music. I was just saying that they didn't really fit in with the rest. Jesus Christ.

Alright, it's settled then. At least you like good music, that's all that matters.

But on the topic of Agnostic Front, I could never get in with the more metal-sounding hardcore punk. I love the Misfits, but I would never lump them in with metal anyway (I think that has more to do with their subject matter than anything). Is there a place that's better to start than others? I always loved the first DRI album but they didn't really have any metal tendencies at that point. It's the vocals that turn me off of the more metal-leaning stuff; I love the screaming of Glenn Danzig and Ian Mackaye, but I can't take the really heavy shit...it gets old to me.

So where should I start to try to ease myself in? Maybe Discharge? I'm not knowledgeable in this area at all.
