in l.a. everyone shows up early. i don't understand it at all! i must be a total dork for wanting to get there at door time (if not earlier).

I usually have little interest in seeing opening bands...or standing two feet from the stage.....unless there are openrs i want to see, i call the venue before hand, and try and show up 10 minutes before the headliner goes on.

because everyone in nyc always has something else to do. it's amazing how that happens to you when you move here. that and the fact that it's so expensive to drink at almost every decent venue here (my one exception currently being Warsaw, although i hope to find more)... people do much better hanging out at a bar to get lubed up for shows.

Everyone here shows up late or talks through the openers, then they try to force their way to the front of the stage and snag your spot.
I'm notoriously early and always buy an advance ticket for shows I could easily get tickets to at the door for the same price.
My girlfriend gets real mad at me for making her hurry sometimes, but that is just how I am, and I can't change it. I get pissy when someone makes me late and we had a predetermined time for getting to the show.

I always try to show up exactly when the last opening band is starting their set unless I've heard good things about another opener.

In New York, shows never, ever start on time. I'm sure there's a Cramps audience standing around somewhere waiting for the New Years Eve '89 Ritz show to start.

Yeah, seems to work better than the usual show threads.

Wait, no it doesn't.

what? i don't know what angelinos you're talking about.... i'm always late to everything (mainly due to the fact that my partner is crime is NEVER on time to ANYTHING).

clubs- generally show up around 11-12.
shows- generally show up around 9-10.

this bar closing at 2am business sucks though. especially since last call is usually 1:20-1:30am. i call shenanagins.

Bars close at 1am in Nebraska, the good bars serve right up until 12:59 and then give you about 10-15min to finish your drink before they start booting you out.
In South Dakota, the college bars started shutting down at 1:45. The rare club show in Vermillion usually meant the bar served until they cut the band off at about 1:55am.
I already have my ticket for Tapes N Tapes on Saturday and will be at the bar nearly an hour before the show starts.

No kidding.

Tear-n, only OUR group shows early to shows. That's cuz we're short and wanna be in front, not standing behind the Land of the Giants' rejects.

With 4 a.m. bars in chicago (5 a.m. on saturdays), I'm going to have to adujst.

that's it, i'm saving up for a keg-erator.

I remember when folks started leaving Athens to move to ATL. The adjustment from 2am to 4am closing time was BRUTAL. 4 am is fucking LATE.

It's even worse when you're a bouncer.

I try and get to shows early if there's an opener I'd like to see, but I usually end up running late and only catching half their sets. Plus, I hate standing around for 2-3 hours. It makes my back hurt.

Bars close at 2am here and last call usually varies from 1:30 to 1:55.

I love when Duffy's Tavern in Lincoln has a rare Thursday night gig, usually a national act, i.e Saddle Creek, because pitchers of Old Style, PBR and Busch Light are $3.50.
