Cary is participating in a National Spelling Bee in a couple of weeks. It's his fiorst, so we thought it might be fun for him to do a practice run in front of family before he got up in front of 1000+ strangers.

So we're having everyone over for dinner tomorrow night and will go through that dry run.

Nothing too exciting for me

Today: Go to work, maybe run an experiment. Afternoon beers, followed by nighttime drinks. I think I might watch King Kong tonight, but I'm not sure. I know I'm definitely ordering something in to eat.

Tomorrow/Day After: lounge around and do nothing. Drink white russians and imagine I'm somewhere better. Oh, and finish watching Season 1 of The Wire, fucking excellent show.

Good luck to the boy! I was in local spelling bees as a kid. Very stressful! You're in the suburbs, right?

Weekend:
Friday- enjoy apartment while roommate is at Neko Case show. Maybe see Miss Alex White @ Subterranean. Maybe sit at home and watch tivo'd episodes of "CSI" (grissom!!)

Saturday - bike ride in morning. Wedding in afternoon (get to show off my fabulous red skirt!), Arab Strap at night.

Sunday - "dinner" at 1pm at my grandma's house in the burbs. I swear, old people and their weird concepts of time...

Thanks!
And yes we are in the suburbs, but are travelling to Indianapolis for this Bee. It's a national one, sponsored by a children's magazine. So it's gonna be huge -- and extra stressful, I'm sure.

But, he asked us to do it and he has been studying hard, the little trooper.
I'm sure he'll do great. But even if he freezes, it's been a good experience and has taught him how to study at a pretty young age. (He's 6 and in kindergarten.)

Glad you enjoy this, boyo. One of my faves of the last 5 or 6 years.

I have pretty cool weekend: Dispatched my candidate to a helicopter fly-around and meeting with the massive moneys. So, I have to go pick up some checks and shoot the shi-ot with a few people, but other than that a pretty lazy day.

Tonite: Maybe dinner at this fine hipster-Mex joint I found that does fresh squeezed Margs and has awesome food to boot.

Tomorrow: Mr. Derris is coming to town. We have all been roped into going to some Black Tie ball for the fucking JUNIOR LEAGUE. On the plus side, Tuxedo means you can as drunk as you want cos "See, we classy." I have to go make sure they got my tux right. (Ayah, I went with a black dinner jacket, cos they didn't have cream, and white is a bit too THEM for me.)
Hopefully derris will show up in mid afternoon so we can start drinking and trade music and annoy the shit out of Femgar and his date by only talking in Garspeak. Then, go make asses out of ourselves at this dinner, and find some bar to whoop at.

Sunday: MON. G. ER.

On a serious note, best of luck to him.

I was only ever in one spelling bee, I joined with five of my friends because we figured, "The more contestants, the longer the assembly, the greater the chance we'll blow through fourth period."

I got eliminated in the first round. My word, or so I thought was "secession", which I spelled correctly. Apparently the word the moderator was unable to articulate was "succession". My sister reported that one of the english teachers (near to whom she was seated during said assembly) protested, "No, that's right." when they announced my spelling of "secession" was incorrect.

Tonight: We're trying out the new restaurant that opened up across the street from us. Keep hearing that the place is amazing.

Tomorrow: Son and I are going to go for a ride to Oak Park for the day. Go out to lunch, shop around etc. He's going to school there in the fall so we're going to go drive and see his new school(his dad bought a place out there, and since school is a lot better there we're putting him in there).

Watch a movie at night. Read when he goes to bed.

Sunday: CCD, hang out with the guys. Make josh help me clean a couple closets out.

I am going to be grilling sausage from the Italian market and drinking until I pass out. all weekend. Seriously I am very excited for this. Might even be able to get some night posting in. Also, might end up sleeping on my porch.

I'm having a salad for lunch today to get ready.

That's a nice date idea. :)

Me:

Friday: Hopefully rustle up the energy to go to a wild & crazy birthday party for two of my friends. A bunch of my old record store clerk friends will be DJing---should be wicked.

Saturday: Hopefully BRUNCH with the honey. Gotta get more trip planning stuff done. Must find some good hiking socks, compas, first aid kit, etc... And have to book Eurorail passes.

Sunday: more trip planning & preparing...

edit: whoa... can't type today
