Did this happen today? That sucks. Back trouble is miserable.

Wait a minute. Has Colin been up for a visit?

ha ha ha
no, it's been goin on for like 6 months but I wore sky-high heels on Sat and now I cannot stand upright. So now would actually be an ideal time for him to visit.

No, I was referring to Colin's home calls. And if he visits NYC?

I stretch when I am sore.
When I am sore, it takes me awhile to stand up straight, and picking up the kids is not so good on my back.

I've noticed I'm getting more and more aches and pains in the mornings. That feeling sucks.

just got back from Doc. Apparently I have arthritus in my lower back AND a degenerating disc that is pinching a nerve.

positive side: vicodin!

My pops has a problem where the discs in his back dry out instead of bursting.
All they can do is put stationary metal spacers in between the affected vertebrae so the nerves don't get pinched. He's had at least four fusion surgeries and each one just puts the resulting pressure on the disc above the previous problem area. Eventually he'll probably only be able to bend at the waist since his spine will be held together entirely by metal.

It sucks because the muscle condition I have is hereditary (though strangely I'm the only one on that side in a wheelchair) and it's possible the back problems may be as well since one of my aunts is starting to have similar difficulties. I really really hope not since he started having pain and loss of movement in his mid 30s, which would give me 7 or so years.

Getting back on track, good luck Lady Neuro. Back troubles are a no-win situation.

I think I had that disc problem sort of. My disc was broken/ bulging out and putting pressure on my spine which would make my leg go numb.
I had surgery to remove the fluid from the disc. Now I'm better, except I seem to pull muscles in my back all the time trying to compensate and extra careful.

I feel for you, ms.neuro!

First things first: Throw those stupid heels away!

And for short term relief, pile a couple of your couch cushions on top of each other on the couch, then lie on the floor with your knees bent and lower legs resting on top of the cushions. You might want to first put a pillow and blanket on the floor, but keep your back, hips and lower legs at right angles to each other. Lie like this for about half an hour at a time and it will allow your disk to plump up again and take the pressure off your sciatic nerve. (If indeed it is the sciatic nerve that is OWWWWING you.)

Make sense? If I had an Etch-A-Sketch I could draw you a picture.

Hope you feel better soon.
