I'm thinking the first few Violent Femmes records would be pretty good candidates for better sounding packages. The current CD issues are not so damn hot.

And even more impressive would be all the original albums from The Move with crisp, digitally restored sound.

Yeah.
I'm waiting.

It's not the mastering.

I'd like to hear what a cleaned-up version of The Stone Roses would sound like.

Well, the self-titled reissue is pretty stellar.

But I agree that the first few after that could use the same treatment.

I don't really give a shit about remastered sound, but I would love to see some Stones releases from the Virgin years that include studio outtakes, alternate versions, etc....

kinda like those Beatles sets that came out a few years ago.

I thought the box set addressed this. Mine sound fine.

Loog,
Not sure which sets you're talking about but the Stones' ABKO remasters will change your mind about not giving a shit. Listen to them next to the 80s original CD releases and it's pretty shocking.

The Smiths need the remaster treatment something fierce.

The Roses stuff that was remastered for Very Best sounds pretty good. The whole debut should be remastered but I can just imagine the legal dust-up over that.

Haven't heard the box set. But I would still like to see them available individually. I won't have the $50 or so to drop on a set like that anytime soon.

Hasn't it been done once or twice now ?
Perhaps the original source is so crappy sounding, it CAN'T be done.

God, how I love this record.

I'd be down with that for sure. Although I am down with the remastered sounds, those SACDs sure sounded nice and clean, compared to my older Stones cds from the 80s, and I'm not even set up that well.

Definitely, but I hope his disdain for his raunchier material won't dissuade him from doing so. Dirty Mind and 1999 are two of my favourites.

first three REM records.

First two Springsteen records.

Although I'm not sure how much can be done to help the sound on these.

good luck waiting until 2067 when Keith the last remaining Stone, obviously) dies....

the 'mats haven't ifficially been remastered. I think there's like 2-3 Ween albums that would be prime for this (though they did their debut a few years back).

Didnt they remaster Murmur? Or did they just rerelease it with bonus tracks. Either way the re-released CD version sounds oodles better than the vinyl.

The current 3-disc issue of this album sounds great, and you have 2 versions (stereo or mono) to choose from.

My pick? HUSKER DU

Yeah, I've been asking this same question for a while.

I just don't understand how it could sound completely fine on vinyl (I have a reissue that I guess was made in Germany or somewhere), but it always sounds kinda fucked up on CD.

To my ears it doesn't really sound that much better than the Reprise CD version. It's louder and a little "brighter", maybe.

I agree about Husker Du.

Were you not happy with the 2001 remaster, or are you not aware that it exists? I think it sounds GREAT.

That first Massive Attack record, Blue Lines, needs a remaster...especially if it would help volume levels.

Engineer types: In all honesty, how much can a less-than-ideal session be salvaged from a fresh re-master? I mentioned the first two Bruce records, but those were recorded so poorly in inferior studios. Isn't clean shit still shit?
