i have an old tape player that i'm wanting to use to dub off records for car listening. it gives me the choice of either c or b type noise reduction. which of these is better to use with vinyl? i just don't want my tapes to sound all muffled and crappy. is it better to go with no noise reduction at all?

I used to know all about this but it's been a while.

If I remember correctly C is actually much worse than B.

Buying a good quality cassette tape makes a big difference,

"B" and "C" sound muffled to me. I'd go with no noise reduction.

Also, try to find the best conical needle and unscratched vinyl that you can. Use blank metal tapes for recording if you can find them...

i'm thinking i might go with no reduction. some of the stuff i'm recording is kind of scratched up, but i guess there isn't much noise reduction can do about that. i'm recording on a memorex, normal bias type I cassette.

Your car unit is probably B only. I never cared for any of it.

That's the way I usually go.
