All us Darwin worshipers knew this thing must have existed... why would it be freaky?

I don't remember reading about this "heathen fish" in the bible.

We should just assume this fossil was put in the ground by secular Hollywood Jews to trick us all.

the theory of evolution is just that, a theory. There is not way they can prove or disprove it. That's why it is a theory.
An assumption based on limited information or knowledge; a conjecture=THEORY just saying
note the word assumption. like my grandpa use to say, when you assume, you make an ASS out of U and ME

that's really not the scientific definition of a theory at all. remember that gravity is still a theory, but you never call anyone an ass for assuming they won't float away if they don't hold on to a tree.

Evolution is a scientific theory, which is completely different from the word theory or conjecture used in everyday language. Many creationisms say that because evolution is a theory (the probability that evolution explains life may approach 99.9999% but not 100%), it shouldn't be taught in schools because it is the opposite of fact, but for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not stand in opposition, but rather exist in a reciprocal relationship.

Evolution is an observed fact and the modern synthesis is currently the most powerful theory explaining evolution. The evidence in favor of evolution is just as convincing as gravity.

I'm waiting for the fossilized SUV's and Aqua Net cans that caused the global warming that allowed such shallow water fish to live in the arctic.

I know it's hard to believe someone here wouldn't completely understand the science behind evolution, but I don't think evolution is taught very well in schools and that could explain why people are still skeptical of it.

aFreshStart4Me isn't stupid, just misinformed because there is a lot of weird psuedoscience floating around like intelligence design, which distorts science and gives people the wrong impression about life on earth. And as we all know, the unusual amount of fundamentalism in this country allows psuedoscience to replace traditional science in many instances, moreso than in other countries.

i know a couple people that absolutely insist the world is only 10,000 years old - college educated people. religion can brainwash a person like nothing else.

That's interesting. If I weren't so lazy to keep my tax bracket lower, I could say the same thing about economics!

For your information, I graduated college with honors and also think creationism is theory as well. I never said I was a creationist. Sciencist has been proven wrong plenty of times.
I remember learning about Newton's LAWS of gravity in Physics and Biomechanics class. I never heard Gravity discribed as a theory. As for reading some books, why don't you go read some J.R. Tolkien you kiwi hobbit.

here ill explain it

Scientific Theory = falsifiable
Scientists dont really try to prove theoriesas much as they try to disprove them. If they can't disprove them they are accepted as valid. Evolution is a Scientific Theory.

You said there is no way to prove or disprove a theory. You're right - that's what seperates scientific theories from 'theories'.

Creationism is a 'theory' but not a 'scientific theory', because it is not disprovable (see also:Freud). That is not to say it does not have worth however, just not scientific worth.

Sorry if I used any big words, Collage Grajit

There is the theory of gravity, the theory of evolution, the theory of relativity, etc.

The following site helps define scientific law and theory.
http://amos.indiana.edu/library/scripts/theory.html

A law is a description (usually mathematical) of some aspect of the natural world. You gave the example of gravity, and while the law of gravity describes and quantifies the attraction between two objects, the law of gravity does not explain what gravity is, or why it might work in this way. That kind of explanation falls into the realm of theory, and the theory that explains gravity is the theory of general relativity.

A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that can incorporate facts, laws, inferences, and tested hypotheses. In other words, all scientific theories are supported by evidence, and you can test them, and most importantly, you can use them to make predictions.

Theories never change into laws, no matter how much evidence out there supports them. Formulating theories is the end goal of science.

Newton's first law of motion is a qualitative one---it tells you when something will accelerate. Newton went on to quantify the amount of the change that would be observed from the application of a given force. In Newton's second law of motion, he said that the force applied = mass of an object × acceleration. Mass is the amount of material an object has and is a way of measuring how much inertia the object has. For a given amount of force, more massive objects will have a smaller acceleration than less massive objects (a push needed to even budge a car would send a pillow flying!). For a given amount of acceleration, the more massive object requires a larger force than a less massive object.

Newton also found that for every action force ON an object, there is an equal but opposite force BY the object (Newton's third law of motion). For example, if Andre the Giant is stuck on the ice with Tom Thumb and he pushes Tom Thumb to the right, Andre will feel an equal force from Tom pushing him to the left. Tom will slide to the right with great speed and Andre will slide to the left with smaller speed since Andre's mass is larger than Tom's.

Gee, I'd say that was pretty scientific. Looks you need to brush up on your Physics

Theres no explaining to some people. Everybody learnt that shit in year 11.

laws =/= theories

laws are a rule

theories explain why those rules are
