Just been listening to some CCR and my gawd, how'd they get that sweeeeet guitar tone? I haven't heard this stuff in years, and have just played Up Around the Bend for the fourth time in a row!

Guitar geeks, who knows what type of rig was Fogerty and company using back then?

Fogerty liked gibsons played through Kustom amps. Note the spelling there. If you don't know them, Kustom built tuck-n-roll padded audio gear, very disco. A few of them in the late 60's accidentally sounded halfway decent, most really didn't.

The only ones you see now are solid state relics from the mid/late 70's, and they're functional (Bloor had or maybe still has one), but nothing phenominal.

Mostly it was just clean livin'. Clean guitar, clean head, no effects, and just strum away.

Here's one from back then... That's a Rick he's playing, and you can see the disco (before there was disco) padded Kustom gear at the far right.

A closer shot of a 72 Kustom Sidewinder... similar.

If you want that sound, get a nice Rickenbacker or something with very weak humbuckers and the oldest tube amp you can afford, and of course a guitar cable and a pick. That's about it, really, just old gear played clean.
