Kevin Millwood, who shall heretofore be referred to by this long-suffering Rangers fan as "Chan Ho Millwood." How can a guy go from leading the league in ERA one season to leading the league in earned runs allowed the next?!?!? What a fucking BUST!!!

pretty good call. Giants made a horrible deal - last year - fat fuck Benitez.

Giants started Alou, Finley, and Bonds in the OF today...oldest outfield every I think they said. Plus (Giants' awesome signing) Vizquel - 4 for 4 with 5 RBIs

Padilla's first start was a gem. Unfortunately, that's the only game they've won a week into the season...all at home! I'm so tired of this team sucking ass. It's been almost 40 years, and they've won exactly one playoff GAME. Not series, mind you, game.

Worst franchise in professional sports history, bar none.

Bullshit. They were decent for exactly three years in the late '90s, and have been terrible every other year. Find another team in any sport that has been around as long as the Rangers with fewer playoff wins. I'm guessing none exist.

Tampa Bay outside of a few years
Detroit Lions for who knows how long
Grizzlies
Raptors

Have you read Seasons in Hell?

From Amazon:
Baseball's Texas Rangers were the Washington Senators before they were moved in 1972 by owner and political-insider Bob Short, whom the author describes as "Hubert Humphrey's bagman." In 1973, Shropshire first began covering the Rangers, a group of has-beens and never-weres, for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. No one could play ball, but everybody could drink, chase women and use "ability pills"-amphetamines.

We see the likes of Rico Carty, so slow "you could time him with a sun dial"; bonus baby David Clyde, who would be finished within a year; and Jim Bibby, known for his fastball and his "apparatus of manhood." Manager Whitey Herzog, who did a fine job retooling the team and would go on to success elsewhere, was replaced by Billy Martin in 1974.

Between Martin's almost daily fistfights, the rantings of Jimmy "Fear Strikes Out" Piersall and the riot that ensued at 10-Cent Beer Night in Cleveland, the Rangers overachieved and finished second in the American League West. But these guys played over 20 years ago.

Only those few fans who actually read books during rain delays will want to transport themselves to the locker-room shenanigans of a lousy team of the 1970s

I'll give you the Clippers and the Lions, but Tampa Bay won a Super Bowl, for Christ's sake! And the Nets have made the NBA Finals, and won ABA titles. The others are all too new to be considered.

what about the philadelphia phillies as worst franchise in american professional sports history? they've been around for 123 years, been to the world series five times, and won it once. and it's not like they play in a city that doesn't really care.

the cubs have at least been to the series a handful of times and won it twice.

I'm going to say that winning a championship eliminates you from contention.

True, but they last went in when Truman was President, and they are creeping up on 100 years since the last World Series trophy.

Also, St. Louis/Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints.

EDIT: I realize you already know the Cubs line, but I think plenty of time has elapsed to make the trophies they won irrelevant.

Why not root for the Astros then?

Just wondering.

Isn't it just a little bit soon into the '06 season to call Millwood a bust?

Now take Adam Eaton... One could say that trade is a bust. Thank you for Chris Young and especially Adrian Gonzalez. That guy will be raking in hits here for years to come.

The Rangers just won their second game of the season, and so did Padilla. He's now 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA, while the rest of the staff is 0-5 with an (approximate) ERA of 47.36.

The Phillies were idiots for not keeping this guy. Any starter that can do this for a team as shitty as the Rangers in a stadium as unfriendly to pitchers as Ameriquest Foreclosures Field in Arlington would be a friggin' Cy Young contender on a normal team's roster!
