I own alot of Waits. But this is still a great little disc.

I hate hearing Beatles covers unless they're radical departures from the original, like Earth Wind and Fire's cover of Got To Get You Into My Life. It's barely the same song, but in a good way.

I think this Holly Cole album is the same way, and while not as intriguing as the source material, it's still a sexy sounding album, in part because the trio is tasteful, and her voice is sultry, and in part because Waits is a motherfucker of a songwriter.

I think that's one of the marks of a great songwriter, when someone can make your song sound fantastic, but only if they realize that they can't do it in your style anywhere near as well as you, so they have to fuck around with it.
