Duane Aslaksen -- from Roky Erickson's 1980's band:
Anyone know anything about him?
Has he done anything else beside the 1980's Roky albums?
His work on The Evil One is sublime and I want to hear more. Does anyone have a clue?
His listing at AllMusic is completely useless. And I've only seen a few production credits mentioned for local Austin bands when I Google him up.

Thanks!

Call me crazy but If it were me, I'd have probably fit "Duane Aslaksen" somewhere in the subject line if I wanted to get someone who knew anything about him to read the thread...

I did that.
That was when it only got 3 views.
I changed the thread title to pique more interest/get more views.
It worked.

I think people are suspect of your threads given that you've posted more than 1 pudding thread.

My dad has a friend in Ft Worth who he has known for a few years. Well, the other night I was over at their house and they have a little 13th Floor Elevators clock on the wall. We got to talking and turns out this guy is Roky's 1st cousin. Of course, Id already interjected some Roky commentary when he told me (something about Martian necrophiliac pedophilia or something), but turns out they really dont keep in touch.

I thought for a split second it might lead to a chance meeting.

But NOT... THE WRENS!!!

I would like to thank Senor Todd for pushing Martin Newell's "Greatest Living Englishman" and 'Listen, Listen' - Emitt Rhodes'. I would've never heard these gems without threads like this.

The Wrens = meh (but that's not Todd's fault)

I posted about Duane at the boards at www.rokyerickson.net and got this excellent response from the board admin.:

Quote:
Todd,

Well, you`re in luck. I just had contact with someone who has the complete scoop on Bird, but it was brief. I get the feeling that Mr. Aslaksen is the most low profile person that Roky has worked with, though perhaps not truly reclusive like Mr. Hall.

I can say this. He was in a late 60`s to early 70`s band from the Detroit or maybe the Ohio area. Some of you garage rock experts might correct me on this.

The band was "Electric Rooster" and had nationally released albums.

Duane joined as lead singer.

I don`t know if he played guitar or was on their recordings. They are popular with collectors to some degree. I`ll try to learn more details.

He plays guitar in some local venues in California. It seems that all members of the original band that backed Roky now reside quite near each other in Sonoma County.

Duane is a producer and has numerous credits to his name.

I was told that there is a long list of associates who lament the fact that he doesn`t make himself more high profile as a guitarist.

I`ll see if I can get someone close to him to expand on all this and also find out if there are recordings he appears on other than the ones you already know.

I am waiting for more info. This is exciting.
