Alright, my neighbours to the north -- yes, you Canadian types, specifically those on the eastern coast. Word on the street has it that Sam Roberts and Hawksley Workman are getting all kindsa attention these days. Frankly, I've never heard of 'em and wondering if any of you have the word on them. I believe they're from the Toronto...maybe Montreal?...area.

Merci.

(Edited for proper spelling)

Here's his first major song in Canada called 'Brother Down'

Hawksley was just here in SK last week, I think. I've actually never heard him myself.

Yup, I picked up We Were Born In A Flame last year on a whim, and was very delighted when it hit my stereo. I cannot tell you how many people I've turned onto that album. Great stuff. Highly recommended. While I would categorize it as good rock n' roll, I'd also say you'd dig it more if you have alt-country/roots rock tendancies, as some of the songs are definitely leaning in that direction.

Sam Roberts is pretty decent. At first, I kind of wrote him off as being a Jack Johnson-ish mehh. But 'Don't Walk Away Eileen' kicks some ass.

And Hawksley.

I should start a separate thread. I love him. If I were at all gay, I'd marry him. I have all his albums, with the exception of the new one that just came out. And his dvd. And his book of letters.

Yeah. Obsessed. One of my top 10 of all-time.

Yeah, he´s good people. His band are old friends of my old band. In fact JD, the guitarist (and my old co-songwriter) of my old band just did some of the tour dates with them as a fill-in on bass.

Music-wise it´s not the kind of stuff I´d personally rush out and buy---just because I´m stingy with my cd-buying dollars... but I´ve got to say I´m extremely proud everytime I hear it on the radio. To me it stands out miles above the rest of the stuff they play on commercial radio. Sam is a real musician, and writes a mean pop song. Moreover, his music has soul and is actually about real stuff . It´s refreshing. He deserves all the recognition he has. And I´d say the success has actually made him more humble. A good success story.

JD also co-produced the new record, which also makes me proud.

I fucking love Hawksley's first record (We are the delicious wolves), but was unfortunately dissapointed in a big, big way by his second. So much so that after i heard it i didn't even tell my other friends who liked him that he'd released a new record, because i didn't want them to be crushed like me. i hope that he's back on track since then...
but the first record is such a pop gem it hurts.

I'm not sure if that's what i'm referring to, this was a while ago. I got into him when he was playing a lot in France ( i was living there at the time) supporting 'we are the delicious wolves'. The next thing I saw that he released, I checked out and it was awful. However, For Him and the Girls appears to have been released well before then, so maybe I'm thinking of a different album.

For the record, I'm now totally humming 'jealous of your cigarette'

By the way, should YouSendIt take fifteen to twenty minutes on a cable connection to upload a 3 minute song?

I don't think so, but there you have it.

for him and the girls is a great album - think I got it off of Emusic awhile back - I should pick up a few of these albums.

there's probably a box hiding on your desktop that says something like:
"unresponsive script: blah blah"
hit the 'stop script' button and you should be good to go

nope, it's hung up. Do it again, or sign up for the beta version. I haven't had an issue with it yet. I really want to hear Hawksley too. I don't know how I've dodged hearing him so completely.

Also, do you have any Pursuit of Happiness?
