Probly so, but I just saw for the first time last night the Jaguar commercial featuring "I Turn My Camera On". Honestly, I thought it was a pretty fucking cool commercial. Also, I'm hoping they were well paid.

I know that this is a topic that pops up from time time; it almost seems like we need a bumpable thread to chronicle and discuss music that we like being used in spots. Something akin to Z's Music on TV threads.

saw this the other night. literally four people said at the exact same time "is that spoon?" It's a good spot, i'm sure they got paid.

I like the Spoon commercial a lot. Very nice. Has anyone else noticed the Robbers On High Street commercial? I can't remember what it was for. I'm guessing a real estate or insurance commercial.

Neat. I couldn't find four people in a 25 mile radius of me who even know who Spoon is, prolly. Yeah, the commercial is nice.

I'm not being a nazi on you cause I don't really care, but you asked the question. So the answer is yes, yes we have. Plus, there is some more discussion there.

I liked it, but it did sort of freak me out a bit and kind of called my hypocrisy out (Volkswagons are OK, but not Jags?). Hmm. Cool song, though -- I never did get around to hearing anything from Gimme Fiction

the first three songs on it are sick. this is the third. it's a solid album though.

Funniest thing about this is when I played Girls Can Tell for Rory one time his comment was "This is OK, but it sounds like the music you hear in hip car commercials."

Apres moi, le deluge or somesuch nonsense. The new dumb have won.

Does anyone know how much a band of that size could make from a spot like this? Any guesses?

How about a band like the Caesars that placed that one song in every goddamn commercial last year?

the amount it costs to use a song in a commercial is ridiculous. it's based on how long the song is played... the brand pays a one-time fee and the label has to approve it. then based on the frequency of the commercial, the artist gets a percentage of the royalities blahblahblah.

the caesars probably made a decent amount of cash since they were known for the i-pod commercial and album sales went up after that. jaguar definitely has the cash for the spoon song.

I read an article (which I posted on Obner somewhere) about the band Looper (Stuart David's band, ex member of Belle & Sebastian) who had one of their tracks used in a Xerox campaign. They made over $1,000,000 from the track over a couple of years. Big money.

I've also heard on a Simpsons commentary (yeah, I'm a geek) that bands often demand $20 - 30,000 to license just part of the track for use on the programme.

Well, that would be difficult to turn down, then.
