What percentage of albums do you buy that are

a) this year's releases
b) less than 5 years old
c) more than 5 years old.

I think I'm 5% a, 10% b, and 85% c. I hardly ever buy newer music, and I have a bad habit of being a completist for certain 70s artists

These days, I'm more of a 80% A, 19% B, and 1% C. I don't buy enough older albums anymore.

For the past 2 years I'd say I'm mostly a new release tuesday buyer, and after that probably more than 5 year old releases after that. The tides are shifting though as I'm buying less and less new music.

depends whether you count reissues as current year or as from the year they were originally recorded. If the later, probably something like:

a) 5%
b) 2%
c) 93%

I have a 50/50 policy. I usually buy two new releases and two back catalogue albums each week.

I use to consider myself about 33%/33%/33% but now it's more like 85%/10%/5%

I tend to go for the natural look, just a little eye liner, perhaps some lipgloss, and that's really it. Maybe a bit of rouge if I'm picking up some old Bowie, or Mott the Hoople or something like that...

you get more for your $1 if you buy older stuff, unless it's from the Best Buy new artists section.

I'm generally 80%/15%/5%

I like to spend more money.

a) this year's releases = 75%
b) less than 5 years old = 5%
c) more than 5 years old. = 20%

but this is just a guess.

usually jan-feb is previous-year catchup on the best of for the previous year plus i use jan-feb to stock up on my back catalogue (lately via bmg & emusic). mar-july are usually mostly new purchases. july-aug i buy a few more older titles (lately via bmg & emusic). then i close out the year sep-dec primarily (90%+) new titles.

b) less than 5 years old = 10%
c) more than 5 years old. = 25%

It depends on the time of the year (right now I'm buying a lot of older stuff I find in the used bins, but later in the year it's usually more of that year's releases).

I'd say overall:

a) this year's releases: 50%
b) less than 5 years old: 25%
c) more than 5 years old 25%

stealing this stab cause it's probably what my stab looks like too. b) is definitely the lowest of them all.

I guess it makes the most sense. Ever since I became an uber-music nerd, there's very little that slips by me. If there is something that I must buy for my shelf, it's something that came out "before my time" or is brand new.

Usually it's probably something like 50/5/45, but the last few weeks look more like 30/0/70.
