This had been hinted at several months ago when they talked about the need for a Bush Cabinet shake-up. He has been at that job for far too long.

Yeah. I have honestly felt a little sorry for the guy and for any press sec. in an embattled presidency because they get beat up on for other people's shit. (see also: Mike McCurry, Jody Powell)

The exception here is Ron Zeigler. That dude seems like he was a dick who deserved whatever berating he got.

Anyone think he'll be able to turn things around?

I always thought McClellan was a complete ass for not giving the press its due respect for landing a blow on him. Mike McCurry was a dick, but at least he made a few decent jokes now and then, and always conceded a point when someone got one past him.

The only way they turn this around is if the Democrats somehow completely blow their chance to make huge gains in the midterm election and several members of the Democratic Leadership get involved in a major scandal.
Other than that, the only way they gain major points back from the people is much lower gas prices and successfully controlling Iran and their nuclear weapons without a major conflict.

i think a major scandal is just what the democrats need.
seems to work for the Republicans.

They could easily mess up the midterm election, all they would have to do is focus on an issue that doesn't resonate with normal voters instead of the "It is time for change" mantra.
I think it also depends on the Immigration Bill and how it plays out through the summer months. If Gas prices top $3.00 a gallon this summer across the nation, it gets easier for the Democrats.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Karl Rove, one of
President George W. Bush's most trusted political advisers, is giving up his policy role as part of a White House shake-up, administration officials said on Wednesday.

Rove has been deputy White House chief of staff for policy development and Bush's top political adviser. His policy role will be taken over by Joel Kaplan, currently the deputy White House budget director, two administration officials said.

I think this will have no effectat all and is in name only, but what the hell.

Oh you mean, like..them thinking they can compete and even best the Republicans on National Security? The first thing everyone has said is that we need to change the turf on which we fight..and so what do we try to do? Take it to em on that issue. Yes, its a threshold issue, but they need to NEUTRALIZE it, not try to out National Security them...that's as smart as trying to out-Jesus them.

I think even more interesting is the apparent demotion of the Prince of Darkness, Karl Rove. It is surely a sign-post of Josh Bolten's real power in the White House. They are going to give Rove responsibility for winning the mid-term elections, at least direct White House efforts to do that. These next couple of years could be great fun if you like falls from grace.

I wonder if he resigned so he could help "One Tough Grandma" (his mother, Carole Keeton McClellan Rylander Strayhorn) get enough sigs on her petition to join Kinky on the TX Gubernatorial ballot.

It would be the coolest thing in history, but no, he doesn't have a shot in hell. Now, if LooGAR would have taken my advice and gone to work for Kinky's campaign, this story might have had a happy ending.
