So, Rosie Thomas just had a bunch of gear stolen, fresh after Arab Strap got their tour $$$ stolen and Film School had their fucking van stolen. I can think of at least 10 other incidents of this happening, most notably Sonic Youth and DJ Shadow. No wonder so many people avoid it..

Other than the sports teams, I'm starting to feel like there's nothing about Philly I like.

I was just talking to two people from PA about this over dinner the other night. I can't remember the last time I heard of this much music related theft in one city in such a short period of time.

I should point out that i've never gotten robbed (despite several times I probably should've), nor anyone I know outside of a single Penn student that left a laptop next to their first story window for winter break. Maybe it's just hotels.

Could it all be just an elaborate "Viva la Bam" sketch?

Seattle. Or was it Portland? Wherever the Decemberists had all their shit stolen by the meth ring. When the cops found the gear, they found a virtual Guitar Center's worth. And all of it stunk of meth.

Substitute the cheesesteak for sports teams and you're on to something.

this happens in brooklyn all the time, as well. for my part, we're driving around philly with a van full of gear several times a month and never had a problem.

two lessons i've learned from the small amount of touring i've done:

1) no matter where you're staying, bring in ALL the gear, ALL the time

2) keep the money in your pocket (looking at YOU, arab strap!)

seriously, this would happen pretty much anywhere, and they should be more pissed at their tour manager than anyone.

incidentally, are you guys playing in the festivities next weekend? I'm gonna try to make my way out...
