from my blog:

this was a great show but surreal... j mascis, the lead singer and guitar player from dinosaur jr., the man who's long, straight black hair was once legendary, is now long, straight, and well, GRAY. it had a very wicked witch of the east (or is it west?) quality to it, but it was rockin in its absurdity. this gray haired dude could absolutely throttle the guitar. i haven't heard so many thunderous guitar solos in years. the bass player, lou barlow, contributed the moppy curly half-fro (and exactly like my hair if it dries with no product in it) and screaming vocals of the group. lou, if you don't know, was the frontman of a band called sebadoh, which is also legendary in early to mid 90s indie rock circles. apparently, lou and j had a falling out which led to the formation of sebadoh. this tour is a reunion of those lads, and the songs come from dinosaur jr.'s first three ablums. these are much more noise rock oriented than j's later work, but the show was great all the same. there were long jam sessions here. vocals definitely took a back seat. the only song where vocals were prominent was on "the wagon," which was on the ablum green mind, and not one that lou contributed to. the crowd seemed to be all guys around my age who were in their late teens when these albums were coming out originally. all in all, this was a great show, and i'm glad i remembered my ear plugs. 8)

bitterbuffalo and I saw them a few nights ago---incredible. And unlike you, I didn't have earplugs and am still paying for it 6 days later.

I'm actually more a Sebadoh fan than D Jr., but now have newfound respect for Mascis. He was unbelievably good.

haha i didn't wear earplugs and my ears were terrible the night of, but when i woke up the next day i had perfect hearing, i just had to skip my morning classes because i felt fucking terrible because of lack of sleep.

i think i made a topic about when i saw them a few weeks ago. they really were great, but unfortunately i didn't get a set list this time around. i did last time, though.
