I got canned the day I got back from L.A., last week Monday, i got the call during my lunch break.

I picked up my last check yesterday.

I guess i don't get to play the CD release.

I suspect in the long run this is probably true. For what seemed like an impressive gig to have, you didn't seem that happy with it. This also removes what appeared to be the biggest obstacle to moving out to LA so maybe this happened for a reason.

Should I buy this still? I still want to hear it but part of me says f those f'ers.

I didn't want to say anything, Phil, because you're awesome and your presence is the only thing that could make LS awesome, but Liquid Soul stopped being great in the 90's.

Screw them. Make your own band and whup the shit out of them. Do it. Become the next Rachael Yamagata. Remember Bumpus? Exactly.

I agree. Good riddance. Perhaps you can start your own band. By the way, the best part of the Liquid Soul show I saw was your solo performance.

Man, that sucks! I was hoping you'd be one of the people to make a stop in Nebraska to play sometime.

I couldn't make this last tour because I had to work the day before and after spring break, or i would have lost a whole paycheck. They couldn't book a tour on the dates I said I could go, so they got a sub, and there goes two years of dedication and loyalty on my part, but at least I'm on the album.

If anyone wants a copy, I have no qualms whatsoever about YSI-ing it.

I sure hope that that's not the apex of my career.

That's the way to look at it. If it does well, it still helps your career. And if it does well, you probably would have felt like you needed to stick it out even if you weren't totally digging the band and the music you were making if you were still in the band. This may be the best thing that could happen for you.

Just try to be careful not to burn any bridges, keep the relationships positive even if you don't think your loyalty was returned. You still want them saying good things about you.

That, or maybe to always check your taint for ticks after riding in the woods. Either way, valuable life lessons all around.

I just can't get into her music.

And it could have gone much worse picking up the check, but it turned out good. I guess that's part of why I was finally able to talk about it here.

I'm bummed that not one single guy in the band has called to see how I'm doing, or anything. Not one.

Phil, I'm gonna agree with everyone else. I don't think Liquid Soul was on verge of something. Not having this gig will lead to bigger and better possiblities.

Move to L.A. and start a breakfast diner out the back of Billy G's kitchen.

:D Now we're talking...

And Phil, re: no one calling, it maybe a pretty awkward situation for some of the band members. Its' only been one day also right? Situation sucks, but I wouldn't read it as the other band members don't care.

You don't have to. She was told for years (by some Bumpus folks) that her solo career would never take off and look at her now. I think she's great, but I've also known her for eight years, so I'm a bit biased.

Go, Phil Yamagata, go!

think of it this way, at least now you don't have anything to fear about playing a regular slot from midnight to 4am on wednesdays. that had to be brutal.

sorry to hear about it, but I echo everyone else here in saying it was probably for the best.

No, it's been over a week, and it was probably discussed for the whole tour. The leader is always talking about pulling the trigger on a couple people in particular, and everyone agrees, but then he never does it unless they're fucking up for months, like missing numerous gigs because they're high or something.

Well, whatever. I know I'm better off. I still wish them the best, but I'm disappointed that no one has checked in.

That's what everyone here and my friends here in TO told me when I basically got dumped by my band of ten years.

It hurts---it still feels like a frickin' "breakup" to me---but the truth is everyone was right. I'm probably better off without that whole thing. If I had been 100% sure about it I wouldn't have moved. Sounds like maybe you weren't 100% about being with them either (not sure if that was the case).

The way I try to think about it is that most of the most successful musicians have had to deal with rejection in their careers quite a lot. I had relatively little rejection prior to this... maybe I'm just paying my dues. That part of it all is learning to tell anyone and everyone who has something negative to throw at you to just F*ck off. To learn to believe in yourself regardless. (Of course I type that now but still need to remind myself of it quite often)

You'll be fine.

http://www.telarc.com/Jazz/title.asp?sku=CD-83633

and I'm bummed to miss this gig...

http://www.massmoca.org/

looks like the cd release is at subterranean.

deena's asking me why I'm doing this to myself, and i haven't got a good answer. But I did make some bangin crepes stuffed with chicken tikka masala, mushrooms, onions, garlic, and smothered in a curry, white wine and cream sauce with a bit of cracked black pepper and freshly shredded parmesan.

I'm quittin music and opening an indo-american fusion restaurant. I predict that the chicken korma pot pie will be a monstrous hit.
