What a fine, fine show.

Smoosh opened. I'd heard a couple of songs but hadn't seen them live. Excellent! I was really surprised. Very talented. Not 'good for their age.' Just straight up good.

Then Viva Voce. Holy shit! So I have and quite enjoy 'Lovers.' It's a nice background album that only reminds you it's there a few times during the disc. Only a couple of great songs, but a solid disc. Live, Viva Voce is something completely different. She fucking tore it up on stage. Guitar Heroing all over the place. I was stunned. They rocked so damn hard it was difficult to believe it was the same band. If they did on record what they do on stage 'Lovers' would certainly be one killer album.

Most bands you can listen to their records and kind of recreate the experience you had when you saw them live. This is impossible with them, which is both really awesome and frustrating at the same time.

Mates of State closed out the night. Them being one of my favorite bands in the last few years I was excited and not let down. They have a great sound live, so much fun, so clear. I saw them open for Death Cab in '01 and I'd never heard of them before that. They DESTROYED the headliners. I had a giant, stupid smile on my face for that entire show. This show was different in that it wasn't a surprise what I was going to hear. They did a bunch of stuff off the new album peppered with some old stuff... la la la.. I love these two and the music they make. Haters be damned.
