Vanderbilt University Department of French Wrote:
Dear Chase,

It is my pleasure to inform you that the Department of French and Italian is awarding you a travel grant of $2500 from the Claude and Vicenette Pichois Scholarship Fund. This award will assist you with travel expenses for your additional fall semester of study at Vanderbilt-in-France. It was established by Professor Pichois, a world reknown scholar who taught at Vanderbilt University from 1970 to 1998. Documenting their commitment to Vanderbilt students, the Pichois endowed a fund to assist serious students who wish to develop their understanding of the French language and literature. During your second semester in France we would appreciate a note describing your experience.

You will receive a check soon at your home address so that you can make use of the award as you make your travel arrangements.

Congratulations, Chase, and bon voyage!

Sincerely,

Money in the bank. My parents will be very happy to receive this check, and this ensures that I will return to France this fall.

I don't know... It is France. At the least, it's OPENLY DECENT (7), but at first blush, I can't rate it superb.

With time, though... It could be the Pinkerton of collegiate awards.

But, yesh: felicitations. Pastis is on you this weekend, too.

Vandy loves me, and this past week, Nashville loved me as well, with my 9 hour house hunt...stressful though it was.

2,500 is clearly respectable, and something I would be bragging about for quite sometime. Hope it doesn't run out too fast for you over there.

Furthermore, I demand that Chase (NY/TN) abscond with the Honourable Senator LooGAR -- on the eve of the Good Man's wedding, no less -- and wing him to Paris as well. LooG's can be Dr. Gonzo to the Vanderbilter's Hunter.

It will unfortunately all be going toward tuition costs. I will still be eating sardines and drinking 72 centime wine next semester.

That actually has some potential. That guy would be a ridiculous sight for most Parisians. And I'm betting he doesn't speak any French so the opportunities for ridiculousness just increase with each second he's there. I bet you can buy some serious absinthe in the right neighborhood. At least some good old-fashioned drugs from some beur in the banlieues.

Actually, LooGAR does speak French. So, he could hold his own... To a point. Then, he'd get by agreeing to run the campaign for a parliamentary seat of some imam in the Muslim quarter/slums. The imam, of course, would win.

That's all Paris needs. Loog drumming up the beurs again. They had just finally calmed them down. Introduce him into that population and it would quickly go back to this
