I hate Elliot Smith. Most boring vocals of all time? The lack of dynamics in his music is mindboggling. Everytime I hear him I think he's trying to lull me to sleep with his almost deliberate dullness.

X/O and either/or are way above the rest, for me.

No shit. Some might say the same thing about Husker Du(lack of dynamics), of which I believe you're a fan. (?)

Great songwriter. I actually really enjoy From a Basement Hill.

I think I'd go:

X/O
Either Or
Figure 8
Basement on a Hill
S/T

I don't have Roman Candle. I like all of them but X/O and Either Or are pretty high above the others I think.

Don't know the others enough to put them in the list. Figure 8 is my #1 of 2000.

WHAAA? You like him this much and don't have/know Either/Or? Inexcusable.

I have it. I don't just listen to it often enough to judge. Settle down, Beavis.

That's why the "know" part was in there. Because it's still inexcusable.

Oh, but as to the topic at hand, I listened to Figure 8 tons when it came out. The opening to Son of Sam just kills me. It did a lot of mood swinging, and ES played around with some non-traditional compositions ("Everything Means Nothing to Me") and instrumental bits that I'm not always in the mood for, but I think a lot of people dismiss it for it's production values even though the songwriting is characteristically excellent.

yeah, the mood swings on this one are too much at times, there are tracks on here that I skip nearly every time I play it, and those usually are the non-traditional compositons.

Son of Sam might be my favorite ES track.

You can download Elliott b-sides, demos and compilation songs here:

http://www.elliottsmithbsides.com/

I can't pick a favorite...I love Roman Candle and the self-titled but I love XO and Figure 8 and then Basement, and well...they are all different and special to me. ;)

My nemesis became a fan of Elliott Smith to help himself get laid... Sadly -- because it doesn't speak well of the Milwaukee females -- it worked, if I don't know better....
