I was thinking about entering one of my songs into the John Lennon Songwriting Contest this year.
Have any of you songwriters done something like this before? What has your experience been?

Before I drop the $35 entry fee, I would like some feedback from people I trust, so.... what say you all?

I've never thought about it.

I guess if you win, they're legit and if you lose they're bogus.

Although you might want to check into important things, like retaining ownership of your work, etc...

and all the songs that won were kind of horrible and by people i will never hear from again, so i'm never going to enter these things again.

They always have the lyrics from the winning entries in the USA Weekend magazine thingy that comes with our Sunday paper. I concur: the songs that win are absolutely horrible. If you want to win, you need to up the cheese factor - throw in some imagery about eagles soaring, the spirit flying free, etc., and you might have a chance. Whatever it is, the songs chosen are not done so in the spirit of Lennon, that's for sure.
