Ok here goes.

Mice Elf- Damn thats right I really need to find some Scott Walker stuff.. thanks ..even if that isnt the album I was thinking of.. the reminder will go a long way.

Billy G- All those 1973 picks look interesting.. it seems hard to find that Wendell Harrison disc though. Im definitely going to try to find that Donny Hathaway "Extension of A Man" (but I might cheat and get Everything Is Everything instead)

The other suggestions are really good- I have or have heard most of those.. (or at least familiar with the artists) ...but keep them coming.. I am digging this

EDIT: Ok more -albums I have:
the Gentle Giant, the Roxy Music, the Parsons, Pixies, well ok this is going to take longer than I thought so lets just say .. good picks...

I mentioned Roxy Music, it was my first album listed. I swear I'm ignored half the time on here. I think my bad grammar is the only thing some people notice.

Sorry about that.
I actually saw that, but when i went to go look up some Eno (there was none) i got hung up on the tangent.

One more rec from 1973:
Le Orme - Felona e Serona
AllMusic Wrote:
This excellent recording is largely considered to be Le Orme's magnum opus. The trio, comprised of Aldo Tagliapietra (vocals, bass, guitar), Toni Pagliuca (organ/Mellotron, piano), and Michi Dei Rossi (drums), produced some of the best Italian progressive rock ever recorded. Influenced by Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Genesis, the band forged their own unique blend of sophisticated symphonic prog rock. Tagliapietra's vocals give the music an ethereal quality, and he actually sounds quite a bit like Sting (or the other way around). Their high level of musicianship is evident on "Sospesi Nell 'Incredibile," but the focus is more on mood, song structure, and texture. The original recording contains Italian lyrics, while Van Der Graaf Generator vocalist Peter Hammill penned English lyrics for a subsequent release. Stick with the Italian version for the full effect of this prog rock classic.

Extension of A Man is great, Everything is Everything is even better.

I don't know how hard Wendell Harrison is to find. I know dustygroove has it in stock for $9.99. Its on a great detroit jazz label though, Tribe Records, so if you are still in detroit you may be able to find it locally.

here's what Dustygroove says about it for anyone interested

Quote:
Genius work from the Detroit underground of the 70s -- one of the greatest records ever on the now-famous Tribe Records label, and a masterpiece of soul, jazz, and righteous spirit! The session's headed by tenor player Wendell Harrison -- and it's got an all-star Motor City lineup that includes Marcus Belgrave on trumpet, Phil Ranelin on trombone, Jeamel Lee on vocals, Charles Eubanks on electric piano, and Charles Moore on flugel horn. The tracks have a spacious spiritual approach that recalls some of the later Archie Shepp on Impulse -- a blend of soul jazz with slight touches of electric instrumentation, some vocals, and a very progressive spirit overall -- stepping proud in the new freedoms of the 70s, yet still swinging and very groovy. Titles include "Angela's Dilemma", "What We Need", "How Do We End All Of This Madness", "Merciful", and "Benificent".

it'd be a nice addition to your work in progress detroit mix. You still doing that? I have 3-4 other things from Tribe Records and they are all solid.

And nice call aimarr on Previsao do Tempo. I thought of that one its one of my favorites from 1973 but I wasn't sure f4df would dig it. Doris Monteiro S/T (1973) is another brazilian favorite from that year.

sadly this project died in its infancy for a number of reasons. However, before I leave detroit I plan to make a hardcore search of the record stores here.. there are a lot of them - and I hope to scour some local stuff from way back. I didnt notice dustygrooves had it.. but I am going to recon the area for similar stuff. Thanks for the heads up
